Re: Interior Trim - I HATE CONTACT ADHESIVE, but ........... this helps

"if Lyons hadn't been so tight I bet that this matching would have been offered as standard" Not sure about that (assuming Lyon could have ever been not tight). You can listen to Tim Griffin at CMC in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkFtSiWp6KE explaining that beige was chosen because it ...

Re: New To Doors, does this look right please ?

Yes, even if not seen by anyone, it can obsess you if you know there is a flaw somewhere. And the most heavy work is done: the doors are dismantled. It's a matter of few hours, to be compared to the duration of the whole restoration  So OK Geoff, I'll take your advise into account. Philippe

Re: New To Doors, does this look right please ?

Folks, another question about my doors. One of them is quite dented on its front section, the one on the left: https://i.postimg.cc/XvPG1TwV/IMG-3209.jpg Is this section seen once the door is installed? Should I flatten it (with lead loading)? Or can I let it as is? Thanks for your opinion. Philippe

Re: Another new member

Thank you all for your answers! David, I didn't notice this 'search these results' function, and it works well, thanks. Ralph, your result is exactly what I was looking for. Even if I will only put the engine in place for bonnet fitting tests, I will use this method. Randall, the craddle I made was ...

Re: Another new member

Hi everyone, I am taking the risk of being considered as a dummy, but I didn't find how to search for an exact expression. For instance "engine fitting from below" gives all threads speaking about engine OR fitting OR from OR below. At least getting results for engine AND fitting AND from AND below ...

Re: New To Doors, does this look right please ?

It surely helps, thank you! It can be seen in the second picture that the seam between the rear of the drain and the door frame looks like filled with brazing. Not so sure however about the seam along the length of the drain. It seem to be empty. I guess that filing it with PU sealant will do no har...

Re: New To Doors, does this look right please ?

Thank you Andrew.
BTW another question: how waterproofing is made along the horizontal line in the photo, i.e. between the length of the drain and the door frame? By seam sealant, brazing or lead loading?

Re: New To Doors, does this look right please ?

Hi, I'm resurrecting this thread about door accommodation as I am discovering the strange design of the top drain channels. On my OTS they are not only pop riveted at the top of the door frame, but brazed on two locations too: https://i.postimg.cc/8P98zWqP/drain-channel.jpg Can anyone confirm it is ...

Re: Series 1 bonnet fitting

I am in the stage of preparing the shortening of the RH bonnet wing, by rolling up the bottom wire edge, at the back of the wheel. I'd like to have your opinion about the way I intend to do it, before making a mess of it. This is the panel ready for operation on my bench: https://i.postimg.cc/8zvWvV...

Re: Series 1 bonnet fitting

Geoff,

from my recent experience, at least confirm your adjustment with the spring balance links on. In my case I noticed a slight effect with the bonnet going backwards by few mm, but one side went down too.

Re: Series 1 bonnet fitting

Good evening Politeperson, I am taking advantage of the break during the Crunch  to give you good news about my terrible set up. I did not break the garage ceiling nor the car. I even succeeded in correcting the distortion of the center panel edge. I made some progress in the alignment of the ...

Re: Series 1 bonnet fitting

Thank you so much for your answer and your experience. The image of your recent work is interesting as it confirms that I might have a problem with my sills. Obviously, the bottom of the door aperture should be in line with the sill where it meets the bonnet between the wheel arch and the scuttle. T...

Re: Series 1 bonnet fitting

It's the second option I'm afraid. The bonnet wing is touching the sill all along, so you're right I will have to roll its wire edge. But my concern is also that, the center panel being flush with the scuttle from its left edge up to half of its right half (at the external level of the louvers), the...

Re: Series 1 bonnet fitting

My turn to manage a bonnet fitting. The process with the shims at the front is not complicated and I could manage it. However, it did not solve all the issues, specially those due to supposedly bonnet distortions. As a result I could align the central panel of the bonnet with the scuttle but the win...

Re: Seam sealer: how many cartridges?

To those who are interested in this issue, I will conclude this thread answering my own question. After my experience on a roadster I finally used only 2 tubes of seam sealer. I used the method explained in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LK301_1K-rc that is the DIY method, with thin seams, not the ...

Re: Correct position of Aerial

Thanks again for your experience stories. They confirm my decision to remain with a manual aerial on the existing RH side of the scuttle, albeit the car being LHD. As Ralph says it is not uncommon even if not convenient. The most recent example can be found on BAT today (maybe this was the (illogica...

Re: Correct position of Aerial

Ralph, thank you for your advice/experience. I think I will follow it, although a manual aerial will indeed be much less convenient when situated on the wrong side as in my 67' OTS. But I will not try and weld the existing hole neither drill another one in fear of ruining the scuttle (in a place jus...
