I recently changed ammeter on my S1 4.2 for a voltmeter as suggested in a post on this forum. I bought one from ebay which cost me just ?9 and seems to work perfectly.

Best wishes
Nick

Glad to hear your problems are resolved. Can I suggest you look at the thread regarding changing the ammeter for a voltmeter. I have just carried out this mod on my S1 4.2 and found a suitable voltmeter on E Bay for under a tenner. It was easy to fit using the photos & instructions on the thread and...

I found the soaking carpet problem at the last Le Mans Classic after encountering a cloudburst on route. My '66 2+2 should have had the water drains but there was no sign of them. I was able to buy a set from SGB and have recently fitted them as the photos. I also bought new sill seals but there wer...

Hi David

I tested the charging circuit as you suggested and obtained the following:

Engine off - battery reading 13.7V and normal water level.

Engine running - reading 14.2V at 2000 rpm.

The ammeter was showing it's normal one quarter on the charging side.

Thanks for the reply David. The only thing using current was the satnav but I guess that wouldn't use much. I'll borrow a voltmeter from my neighbour and report back.

Many thanks for posting this information. I have purchased a Voltmeter and will be carrying out the change shortly. Before I do, I have one query about my standard Ammeter setup. I've just returned from a trip to France and the Ammeter reading has been odder than normal. Usually on a journey it flic...

Just to add one more thought. I had to replace the rear calipers on my S1 2+2 as part of a rear end overhaul. The fronts were (and are) in good condition so I replaced the rears only with Coopercraft units. The braking now seems fine and well balanced. I may uprate the fronts when the existing units...

Well, I certainly found water in the car but I did find one way to prevent the water soaking into the underfelt - I left it at home!! There was a considerable amount in the front wells - about a quarter of a pint each side. However I also discovered that I don't have any of the water drain cover bra...

Many thanks for the suggestions everyone - I guess I'll be able to get another chance to see where the water's getting in on my way to Goodwood if the forecast's right!!!

Water Leaks

I recently took my S1 2+2 on a very enjoyable trip to Classic Le Mans. As anyone who went will recall, we passed through torrential rain both on Wednesday and Thursday before the event. Hardly surprisingly, I discovered that the old girl leaks - a lot! Both front and rear underlays were sodden and t...

I have a 2+2 S1 with a red interior and I have to say it looks superb in cream! I guess your best bet to compare will be at Goodwood on Saturday.

I recently suffered SU pump failure and decided to replace it with a modern Facet pump and a fuel regulator. Rather than use a Filter King, I used an inline regulator which just fits in the fuel line and has an adjustment on the top which shows psi. The pump was an easy if fiddly fit needing a coupl...

S1 2+2 Centre Console

I have an S1 2+2 which has had an interior retrim some time in the past. I needed to access the fuses recently and discovered that when I tried to fold it down the plonker who fitted the centre console had made it so tight that the panel wouldn't fold out and eventually through the usual dose of bru...

For what it's worth, I'd buy as good a car as you can afford and try and find one that has at least had all the body done. Even then budget to spend the same again on the mechanics. They may be a pit but maybe not quite bottomless! As a cautionary tale, I did just this last year and bought a S1 2+2 ...
