Re: 4.2 Radio Console fixings

Chris The assembly is fixed to the bulkhead with 4 fixings, 2 chromed knurled knobs at the bottom and 2 chromed domed bolts at the top. I think they are the ones you describe. I am not aware of a cam cover nut being used. Unless the 2+2 is different there is a picture in Factory Fit for the 4.2 OTS ...

Re: Radio Console Outer Panels Series 1 4.2 1966

BD26202/3 are the speaker panels which go onto the overall console metal frame. There are then the speaker grilles and if I remember a cardboard type gasket between the speakers and the metal chassis. The whole assembly is fixed to the bulkhead with 4 fixings, 2 chromed knurled knobs at the bottom a...

Re: Radio Console Outer Panels Series 1 4.2 1966

I have a '66 FHC and the picture you show looks correct if you are mainly talking about the 2 side speaker panels which came with moulded black vinyl on them.
There is a close-up shot of one in the S1 4.2 factory fit thread, on the blue OTS car.

Re: IRS access panels

I think the part in question is BD18492. On my 1966 4.2 FHC I don't believe the cut out holes had been factory provided. But it was clear a previous owner had just taken some tin snips and made a very messy hole in the metalwork to get to the IRS. As a result I wanted to have the correct panel to co...

Re: Hinged luggage board trim materials

Ian

Clausager's Factory-Original book show pictures of the folding board to have vinyl on both sides for an early car with the 2 part hardura boot mat.

It also says the sloping part of the bulkhead in front of the folding board is in hardura and the vertical panel is in moquette.

Hope that helps.

Rare sight, E-Types on an car transporter

Wednesday night on the 'The Channel' programme on C4, last in the series about the English Channel. A 2 second shot of a car transporter with 3 E-types on it plus some other older Jags (I think). One E-type just has the front of the bonnet showing. Came off the Calais ferry in France in the summer. ...

Re: E type operating, maintenance and service handbook

From the article in the E-Type Club magazine of January 2016, E/122/5 was the fifth version of the S1 3.8 manual issued with cars from May to August 1964 and was the last version. A 1962 car would have had a version 2 one up to September 62 and version 3 after that. The maintenance chart that came w...

Re: Govt. electric car plans - effect on us

Unfortunately Tesla gave up free charging for life earlier this year. My brother had his Model X on order for about a year and threatened to cancel after repeated delays and eventually only got it delivered on the last day of 'free for life'. Tesla now say: Each year, owners receive 400 kWh of free ...

Re: Which Tires ?

MWS sell them all including Dunlop and Pirelli. On previous posts some people believe the car should only have VR rated tyres as per original spec and that a lower rating may be an insurance problem, e.g. http://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php?t=1167 I've no idea if this is valid but it is one reaso...

Thanks for reminding me.
It was my mistake saying 5mm, the board is 3mm as you suggest.

Re: Door cards or panels

Hi Steve

I have bought some 5mm MDF so will probably go with that.
Because my old cards aren't original I'm not sure how good they are as templates.
The OTS cards I saw for sale were only £20 so good value I thought if they would fit.

I have now got some Old Grey vinyl from Martrim, who seem to be a big trade supplier - http://www.martrim.co.uk/ They have the choice of both Vinyl, which is stretchy for seats and 3-D curves etc, and also Vynide (rexine) which is not stretchy so suitable for door panels and sills, etc. The backing ...

Door cards or panels

Does anyone know the difference between the hardboard door panels for S1 OTS and S1 FHC cars. I have seen some untrimmed OTS panels for sale and wondered if they are really the same as for FHCs. I know Jaguar had different part numbers for both but maybe the differences were very minor and the OTS o...

Thanks for the replies and advice. Regarding Steve's comment about the card marking the sill vinyl, that's where I started out from. Door cards or panels

I have a damaged internal door card or panel which I would like to replace and re-trim myself. Does anyone know who might sell them untrimmed? The main trim companies only seem to sell them trimmed.
