Re: JDC JEC or E-type club

Thank's to all who replied. Seems it is not just myself who thinks the E-type club organised tours are crazy expensive. I remember the 60 year Geneva tour cost more than i paid for my car! Also there are no local events or meet ups at all. The magazine was good but lately is just full of touring sto...

JDC JEC or E-type club

JDC, JEC or e-type club. I have been a member of the e-type club for many years and the subs have now gone up again to £82 I have decided i will not be renewing my membership this year. Are the JDC or JEC better clubs to belong to. Any thoughts.

Re: Chrome Plating Quality - UK

Derby Plating are the best period. All my e-type items were chromed 15 years ago and they are as good as the day they were done. They are very expensive, but if you want the best.

Re: Oil Leak - Sump or rear main?

It's nearly always the sump rear seal that leaks and not the crank seal. When offering the sump back up it is easy to push the seal out of position. I always glue the rubber seal on with a couple of spots of super glue to hold it in position and use two coats of wellseal on all the matting surfaces a...

Re: Diagnose Engine Rattle

I don't think there is anything wrong with using fuel additive but it has to be measured out accurately.

A gold coloured goo

I have seen this before, (not so much a goo rather a brassy coloured film) and is usually the result of using far too much fuel additive.

Re: Crazy hardtop price

I am not sure i believe these crazy prices are genuine sales. As i have commented before i sold a factory original hardtop earlier this year on e-bay and it only attracted one bid and sold for £1100. At that price someone could have bought it shipped it back to the US restored it and still made a pr...

Re: Clutch fluid black !

I think this may have something to do with the low pressure black rubber hoses that run from the fluid bottles to the master cylinders. These hoses break down over time and eventually sweat and leak. I think the rubber breaks down internally and turns the fluid black. No real evidence just my opinio...

Re: Buying an E Type? A guide by CMC

The information given at 4.01 and 46.25 is incorrect. The 4.2 engine does NOT have a longer stroke than the 3.8. The 3.4, 3.8 and 4.2 engines all have the same stroke, it was the bore size that was increased to create the larger cc engines. An enjoyable video.

Re: Crankshaft Bolt removal in situ ?

I have done this job in situ with a 3/4 drive socket and breaker bar with an extension tube on the bar. I removed the sump and wedged the crank web with a thick piece of timber. The nut was tight but undone OK. I am afraid i don't know if an impact gun will fit.

Re: Correct clutch?

No need to remove the flywheel just turn it to where the rear of the pin is accessible where the starter motor bolts on and drive them out with a punch. Fully agree about using the diaphragm clutch.

Having looked at the map, this is not such a good journey as previously. I would prefer it if they split the venues across the two Spares Day events; one southern and one northern.
Now there is a great idea.
