Sandblasting bonnet

Hi, Both wings on my bonnet are starting to bubble with rust together with some rust on the inner wings and scuttle. The body shop has suggested sandblasting and respraying the whole bonnet but I have read some posts suggesting that sandblasting can distort the bonnet. Looking back at old bills from...

Re: Strombergs just refurbed but noticed a click in the dashpot

It sounds like the same click you get when you remove the dashpot damper and lift and release the carb piston and let it go through the carb port. It only does it once after you have run the car and stopped. I looked through the carb port and there seems to be movement of a fraction of less than a m...

Re: Vacuum Pipes on series 3

Thanks Woolfi and Colin, this is very explanatory. The previous owner had the engine work done by Wolf Direct racing a few years prior to the various issues that the company went through before they went bust. I believe they were considered Jaguar V12 experts at the time. Rather than take off the di...

Strombergs just refurbed but noticed a click in the dashpot

Hi I have just had my carbs rebuilt and noticed when I remove the dashpot piston damper on one of the carbs and refit it I can here a click. I think it is the carb piston moving and may suggest the jet on the carb is not correctly centred. The movement is probably only 2 or 3 mm but this does not ha...

Re: Vacuum Pipes on series 3

Hi I came across this post and it is troubling me as I also have a hybrid HE engine, with stromberg carbs. Going by the posts here the distributor vacuum is at the back, I therefore would have the vacuum advance system. The vacuum tube from the distributor on my car is connected to the right hand in...

Re: Aluminium bonnet, has anyone fitted one of these

Thanks Richard for the feedback, I would definitely take the option to get them to fit the bonnet to the car.

Aluminium bonnet, has anyone fitted one of these

Hi, I came across this site when looking for a replacement bonnet and was wondering whether anyone has had one of these bonnets fitted nd if there were any issues. The price looks very reasonable http://www.mphmotorpanels.com/e-type.htm

Re: Help I need a Replacement Windscreen for S3 2+2

Thanks Steve, It finally came from SNG Barratts (although it took about 6months) the screen has triplex stamp and was fitted by the local autoglass agent. They said the screen went in without any issues. To be honest the fit looks better than the previous screen.

Re: Help I need a Replacement Windscreen for S3 2+2

My replacement screen has finally arrived and been fitted without any issues, the chrome side finishers seem to be a tight fit but my question is should they be glued in place or not? On the old screen they were glued but the fitter said he did n't think it was necessary with the new screen as the f...

Help I need a Replacement Windscreen for S3 2+2

Hi does anyone know where I can get a new replacement windscreen for a S3 2+2, The local autoglass agent has had an order with SNG Barrett for about Six months now without success and I am losing patience with them. Also I understand there are various tinted versions available, mine is a clear versi...

Re: Temperamental Fans

Thanks for explaining the dual relay setup, I was getting confused because mine has a single relay. If both fans work off the same terminal on the relay the issue must be with the fan or the wiring. I will get the multi meter out and see if I can track down the problem. I noticed on the coolcat webs...

Re: Temperamental Fans

I am also having problems with one of the fans on my series 3, looking at the wiring diagram they both seem to work off the same thermostatic switch and therefore should come on and operate at the same time without any delay. Therefore my thinking is if one is n't working the problem will be either ...

Re: Lost power and hear air bubbles in fuel tank

I have changed the fuel pump and it now seems to be running ok, the new SU pump seems to have a double click when it primes the fuel system after turning on the ignition whilst the old pump has always had a single click ever since I bought the car about 4 years ago. As the SU pump is effectively a d...

Re: Lost power and hear air bubbles in fuel tank

The car seemed to run ok with or without the fuel cap, sometimes it will stall within a couple of mins of starting the engine, other times it can be an hour into the journey. Each time there are air bubbles in the tank when the ignition is switched off which only happens after it has lost power, no ...

Re: Lost power and hear air bubbles in fuel tank

Hi Peter, It's a UK model 2+2, I have a manual but it's with the car which is a few miles away from where I live so it isn't really to hand. It has the yellow paper element C28080 with the Spring, I should have mentioned I changed this although the old one seemed clean. I also checked fuel lines and...

Re: Lost power and hear air bubbles in fuel tank

I only opened the fuel cap after hearing the bubbles and there was no rush of air but if the air had released into the tank already this may not show up. I checked the pin hole in the fuel cap and it seems fine. Is their a separate breather pipe for the fuel tank that I can check and if so where abo...
