Re: E-Type Fabs / Classic Fabs Exhaust System Price?
I had the same problem fitting my mild steel heritage system and had to use spacers to make up for the mis-aligned mounting brackets - oh and the new apprentice had been practising on the welds on mine just like yours  That was some years ago so it looks as though they are still learning. I...

Re: Weird electrical issue
1/ The relationship between current and voltage for a LED is not a straight line. LEDs have to be operated in a current controlled environment. The voltage is not limited by the alternator. In a system with the original 4TR regulator the field current is set to maximum as soon as you turn on the ign...

Re: Weird electrical issue
The instructions printed above for Marek's LED units infer that a voltage driven design is being used; if so that is poor design practice as LEDs must be used in a current driven environment if they are to operate reliably and with a long life. Your brake lights are a safety critical item. We need t...

Re: WOSP Alternator from Martin Robey
If you are retaining the (very heavy) alternator mounting bracket that places the alternator in front of the engine as fitted to LHD S2 with factory fitted A/C then yes, this is a known problem as the alternator rotates to opposite way round to normal. The fan fitted to the original alternator is NL...

Re: series 2 ignition won't switch off
There is no ignition relay, as mentioned, the ignition feed (white wire) is direct from the ignition switch. I would check your alternator wiring and relay. It could be you're feeding 12 volts into the white wire coil and fuel pump line from the alternator relay bypassing the ignition switch. Check ...
Re: Car jack
A common recommendation on here is to use an aluminium scissor jack from a Porsche 944 or 911.
I believe David (Heuer) did a post on how you can shape the pad on the top of the jack to fit inside the jacking point on an E type sill making it safer to use.

Re: Exhaust system
There's another option - have a look down the "inlet" side of the front mufflers as you call them. If the inlet tube terminates in a flat wall, use an appropriate diameter drill to drill out the plate at the end of the inlet tube. You'll end up with a much less restrictive muffler and a more robust ...

Re: REPLACEMENT CARBS
As well as the secondary throttle fix mentioned above you need to change the distributor to one with vacuum advance and the UK specification timing advance curve.
With these two modifications, Strombergs will give adequate performance.

Re: Cooling Fan
It is normal depending on how the Kenlow fan has been wired - as Andrew suggests. If it only runs for 10 mins or so the drain on the battery is insignificant. The highest temperature the engine and cooling system will routinely see is in the few minutes after the engine is stopped which is why the K...

Re: Water Pump Replacement
My original (4.2) water pump started to drip so I rebuilt it with a repair kit. For my water pump there is a choice of repair kits, basically one with a ceramic washer which is a later upgrade or one as per the original. I chose the ceramic washer one, C30811K. No problems rebuilding the pump, howev...

Re: Gearbox and lsd oil recommendation
My experience with Redline MT oil in my gearbox was the same as Andy's; the gear change wasn't noticeably better and the gearbox leaked liked a sieve from the rear seal. However, others report a different experience so do a search on previous posts on the topic to help you. GL4 and GL5. GL5 has a su...

Re: Series 2 water return pipe
Steve, I would recommend using a "Y" or "T" fitting in glass filled plastic readily available "on the web" - read eBay  , available in a range of sizes to make the connections, I've used them on several cars with great success. That said, on my car I've left the manifold heating pipe unconne...

Re: Returning to the fray, going Left or Right HD ?
Rory, nice to have you back  To add to what David said, it's only the steering column electrics along with the speedo and tach that move over. The central instrument wiring remains the same. Also note that you need a pair of LHD brake and clutch pedal levers or bend your RHD ones to the LHD ...

Re: Stromberg Needles B1E or B1AR
For just a 10 mile run that looks way more rich than just an incorrect needle, especially as Strombergs are so well calibrated when new. Are all six plugs the same or is there a difference between the front and rear three? I'd check the choke mechanism is releasing fully. Also worth checking there's...

Re: oil pressure sender calibration widget
Power will come directly from the unregulated supply. The old 10v regulators are nothing but on:off switches so are unsuitable sources of power for anything but a bimetallic strip gauge, so the widget and gauge will have their own supply independent of the old 10v "regulator". I have upgraded to el...

The dash tops are indeed covered in a moulded plastic which you can buy and then mould over your dash top frame. BAS International sell (and I believe make them). For a FHC the headlining is glued direct to the roof. I believe that for a 2+2 a biscuit is used but I'm sure someone will comment defini...

Re: Cooling fans always on?
I don't know what you might have read but the fans were not wired by the factory to be on all the time. The fans are controlled by the "Otter" temperature switch which on a Series 2 is at the top of the radiator and switch the fan motors via a relay. That said, if you have a Series 2 with factory fi...

Re: Brake flaring tool
The standard pipe size for Jaguars and Triumphs is 3/16th but on the E type at least there's a couple of pipes the next size up if you've got the 4.2 braking system. The flaring tool you've highlighted would be ideal for any in-situ flaring and the ability to cope with steel pipe is a bonus if you e...
