Re: Change the clutch without dropping the engine
Well when I lightly touch the clutch you hear the bearing squeeking softly... I will double check the cylinder for air and rod length... but sometimes the clutch pedal also gives a hard stop when engaged and does not go further. I assume the axel presses against the bearing then instead of entering....

Change the clutch without dropping the engine
So I searched the forum but could not find this answer... On a 1968 S1,5 FHC E-type can you change the clutch without dropping the complete engine or will the driveshaft not let me. The engine does not engage in 1st gear and when I first engage 2nd before moving to 1st it grinds. Only when the engin...

Replacing front suspension ball joints
Other then the bentley service manual procedure/steps is there a good movie on how to replace lower and upper ball joints in the front suspension? Is there an easy way. Do you have to take a brakeline off and refill bleed the system for this procedure? Or is it possible to leave everything in place ...

How to check Stromberg needle adjustment
I hear that some Strombergs on the 68 e-type have an unadjustable needle and some need the tool from the top. Is that true and How can one check which version you have?

First gear not engaging
I have a series 1.5 FHC 4.2 with manual gearbox. I overhauled all hydraulics including clutch master and slave. I have put new redline or reddot MT90 oil in the box. In general it drives great but sometimes in standstill at stoplight it does not engage in the first gear, not in second etc. until I r...

Re: Front bumpers with no over riders
Actually I have done so last week. After overhauling the IRS I wanted a more bad ass look. Did not realize 9600HP had that. I simply removed the overrides and welded the two pieces with a tiny dot on top and below so it can be undone without damage. I like the naked look. https://i.postimg.cc/bwYh58...

Re: New head light kit series 1
I did the change over. I have a 68. Managed to buy a set original covered lights from ebay 7 years back. Monocoque metalworks sells the surrounds that you have to weld in. You do have to do some welding though. I managed not to have to repaint the whole car or not even the bonnet. Just spot repair r...

Brake issue after rebuild
A very strange thing occurs with my completely rebuild brakes. Everything is new. New master, new booster, new lines, new pistons, new 4 pot front upgrade, new bottles, new fluid. After bleeding the lines with a pressure bottle system (1.2 Bar) and parallel using a vacuum suction system on the bleed...

Steering rack issue
There is play in the passenger side of my steering rack. The wheel has movement and it rolls up to the steering rack at the top of the rubber sleeve you see the movement. I suspect therefor that. The copper bush is gone. Questions i have: Is it the copper bush most likely? What else can it be? How c...

Clutch slave question and vacuum canister question
So I am completely rebuilding the brakes and clutch. While dismantling i ran into two issues. 1.the vacuum canister was filled with 1L brake fluid !!! That is not good. Luckily I have a new master and servo. Anybody else ever experienced that? 2.My clutch slave cilinder is about 1 inch shorter then ...

Disappointed in parts quality
As I rebuild my IRS I ran into very bad Part quality from a main supplier starting with an S ans ending on G. The worst were the so called ‘best quality’ rear suspension mounts. Not the Poly ones but high end rubber mounts. As they are 1 cm higher then the genuine ones, and installing creates a bit ...

Re: Tacho and 123 ignition
What do you mean with ‘leave the wires on the coil in place’. The one that leads to the 123 ignition as well? Run an extra wire then? Thanks.

Tacho and 123 ignition
So I remember reading something about tachos going mad with 123 ignition. And it does with me. It gives way to many revs. I also remember reading something about a separate 12v wire you had to run from somewhere to somewhere to correct this... if only I could find the article again... Does anyone he...

Backfire issue when choke is pushed back
Hi experts, I have a 4.2 rebuild engine with 2 strombergs and 123ignition. When I start the car cold it needs full choke and does not run on all cylinders. After slowly driving for a minute or so slowly all cylinders start running. Then after a few minutes more and pushing the choke back the engine ...

Re: Speed and revs, 60mph = 4100 revs!
The tacho was also sent away to Speedycables to convert it to work with the electronic ignition, as the rvi tacho paired with a 123 dizzy ignition was causing my rev reading error, and for a very reasonable price of £105 and 2 weeks later it came back not only expertly calibrated but also looking g...
