Re: Tappet noise

Stupid question: to check gaps, you pulled off the entire intake system, pipes, etc. and removed tappet block covers? How long did that take? What gaskets did you need for reinstallation? I'm very curious to hear your outcome. I have tappet noise as well and would eventually like to solve it. Keep ...

Re: E type tyres and where NOT to buy them

Hi I suppose you can't please all the people all the time. If you ring up and ask when you buy tyres off us we will give you a Club discount off the individual standard tyre prices. However on the internet we do have some special offer prices on sets of 4 or 5 tyres. These set prices are already he...

Re: opus ignition system

The challenge with a V12 / distributor is that very little time is available after 5000rpm between sparks to charge the coil - hence the double coil setup in the HE system. I've read this before, but I'm curious why systems like the SNG system do not use dual coils and I've only heard positive thin...

Re: lowering seat height

Hi. I am 6'3 , and have had my '73 since new. I am very comfortable in it, because I made a few mods. You will have to remove the seat tracks.( I assume you will be the only one driving, so not a problem, and take some seat foam out from the bottom). Place seat as far back as possible, leaving room...

lowering seat height

Hi, has anyone looked into lowering the seat height in the SIII? It seems that when I get into an acceptable driving position, by sightline is right into the sunvisors/top of the windshield. Would love to lower the driver's seat a bit. I know how it is done on the earlier S1, but having never taken ...

Re: Flat Floor experts!

Have you looked at the JCNA originality guide for the Series 1? It is functionally a compendium of all of the resources chronicling the changes to the Series 1, at least those coming to NA. http://www.jcna.com/library/tech/e-type1.pdf http://www.jcna.com/library/tech/tech0007.html It can be a useful...

Re: Fuel gauge not registering properly

The fuel gauge on my V12 struggles to exceed a reading between half and three quarters. This morning the gauge measured zero, then slowly picked up above half a tank, when clearly it should have been reading full. Is this the float in the tank, or the gauge itself?, or something else? This is total...

Re: s3 hot starting problem

Seems like a fuel issue. Opus failure for me was shut down while hot, not hard to start when hot. Has anyone else experienced hard hot starts related to Opus?

Series 3 Competition Wire wheel?

An ebay seller is listing this as a possible Series 3 competition wire wheel at 16" x 7". http://preview.tinyurl.com/lgn3frm is anyone familiar with such a wheel? It appears to have the flat hub, but I've never heard of such a wheel for the Series 3 (as opposed to the Series 1). Anyone familiar with...

Gauge issue

Ran my car today. Stopped to replace the brake lamp, and when I restarted, both my temp and fuel gauges were reading at half of what they should be reading. After driving for 15 minutes, both then came up to normal reading simultaneously. Any idea what is happening? Thanks in advance.

Re: Something electrical died

Are the rotor arms notorious on the Series III? I would just start going back in the system to see where you have spark. If you have a strong spark at the HT lead, look inside the distributor. IF it is weak, look back toward the amp, coil or ballast (though I would all upon those more learned than m...

Re: Looking for Help on Ignition Wiring

apparently, there is a version of the ignition where there are less than 6 wires. The info can be found at the re0pus site in the area dealing with ballast resistors. In my set up, the tacho wire bypasses the ballast resistor and joins with the tacho trigger from the amplifier (A and D on the ballas...

Looking for Help on Ignition Wiring

Hi, just bought a new wiring harness for my US 73 V12 manual from Autosparks and noted a difference between the new harness and what is in place. On the car as it exists, there is no white with blue tracer wire going into the Tach slot of the ballast resistor. Rather, it splices with another wire an...

V12 Sweet Sounds

I'm probably cursing myself for saying this, but for the first time ever I recognized the "sewing machine" sound that many have used to describe the V12. The strangest part is that I was fearing that I needed a top end rebuild because the tappets were so loud, but a mechanic told me to do an amsoil ...

Re: V12 E-type EFI

In case there is doubt. It is perfectly reversible of course. That's what it sounded like. I have a few questions if you don't mind. I read somewhere that the current set up has a retard feature which is designed to reduce emissions at idle but otherwise, it cuts off and has no effect at speed...is...

Re: V12 E-type EFI

I've only owned this car since Nov last year, so I don't have "BEFORE" data. What I can tell you is that my car is giving me between 14 and 16mpg(US) BUT, 1) the car has a 3.31 diff and 2) the speedo overreads by 12% (because of the diff), so I'm really not sure how accurate the distance component ...

Re: V12 E-type EFI

Thank you! My answer my surprise you.... Other than EFI, it was the higher compression 11:1 (USA spec ) pistons, and HE heads that yielded so much more power. But everything including the heads and cam was still 100% standard HE. This car had a torque curve as flat as a table from 1000rpm all the w...
