Re: JDC JEC or E-type club

Bill
I'm a member of the JEC so therefore I'm biased, but I've always enjoyed being a member. Our Region is noted for being more of a social club than anything else, with lots of outings and meals etc.

Laser Cleaners

I'm finally going to start my TR5/250 restoration and have been looking at laser cleaners as an alternative to my trusty old bead blasting cabinet.
Has anyone here had any experience with these?

Thanks in Advance

Re: 9 Months Gone Missing

James My car was built in November 1961 but not registered until February 1962 so I've 4 months missing. I had similar thoughts-this was the time E-Types especially roadsters were the proverbial "hen's teeth", waiting lists and the vast majority of production concentrated on LHD North American versi...

Re: Garage Floor Tiles

They're marketed as garage floor tiles in the blurb so should be OK. The tiles are also marketed as non slip and have the checker plate relief on them for enhanced grip.
I checked the reviews and several people were singing there praises as garage floor coverings.
Only time will tell I suppose.

Re: Garage Floor Tiles

Thanks everyone for your responses. I’m fortunate in having a brand new, uncluttered floor which is level. I have decided to go for these tiles:- https://i.postimg.cc/7hzM1fgh/39356-BA0-FCEA-44-ED-9-DD0-055-B1-C6-F65-B1.png They get great reviews and are very hard wearing. Geoff no need to apologise...

Garage Floor Tiles

Hi Everyone

Looking for advice on floor tiles for my new garage. I'm intending to fit non slip interlocking tiles over the concrete. I would need them to be oil resistant and strong enough to support axle stands and the like. The floor area is approximately 52sq m.

Thanks in advance

Re: Slow Cranking and smoking terminations!

I thought I'd give an update on my slow cranking odyssey. The new remote starter switch lasted all of three weeks and then failed! SNGB to their credit replaced it without a quibble. In the interim we had a car show scheduled for the following weekend. As a quick fix I re-installed the original star...

Re: Inspection Pit Covers

Peter I had exactly the same problem with my existing pit. 2 inches of water pools in the bottom every so often. I suspected the tanking had failed but now think it may be damp air condensing in the bottom of the pit where it's coldest. I seem to have solved it by installing a panel heater controlle...

Re: Inspection Pit Covers

Thanks for the advice. The garage is being built into the hillside at the rear of the house. The result is that the internal height will only be 2.4m so a 4 post lift will not be an option. In any case my existing tandem garage has both a pit and lift with enough height to stack two cars if required...

Inspection Pit Covers

I’m about to have a new garage built complete with inspection pit. The garage will have storage for at least three “wide” modern cars and possibly four classics. It would be a real advantage if the pit cover was strong enough to drive over and also have the wheels resting on the covers depending on ...

Re: S1 3.8 FHC

Barrie Thanks for the info, I was unaware of the change during flat floor production-every day is a school day as the saying goes :salute: Checking XKE data for engine numbers shows that this change occurred very close to my car's build date. I need to do a return visit soon to get the engine number...

Re: S1 3.8 FHC

Barrie

I have an OTS flat floor built in November 1961 and the linkage mount is different from this car's:-

Does this mean it was built between March and November 1961 then?
If true then the cross hatched alloy dash should not be on this car.

Re: S1 3.8 FHC

The car has the chequer plate aluminium dashboard which means it was built between July1962 and August 1963 if memory serves me correctly. The original registration confirms that it can't be any later than this.
The throttle linkage is common to all 3.8 series 1 cars.

Re: Slow Cranking and smoking terminations!-Update

Well I've managed to cure the problem but not quite sure how. There was no smoking gun or should I say terminal but I suspect that the most likely problem was a loose battery terminal on the starter switch. I swapped the switch and rejigged the wiring so that the secondary loops have been removed. T...

Re: Slow Cranking and smoking terminations!-Update

Well I managed to spend the whole of yesterday afternoon in the garage :drinkingcheers: I decided the first thing to do was "bell" all the wiring in and around the starter switch. It yielded some interesting results and here's how the wiring currently is:- https://i.postimg.cc/2yx3ryRv/XKE-Series-1-...

Re: Slow Cranking and smoking terminations!

Colin Thanks for your expansive post. The starter switch is fully rated for the starter motor. I’ve already stated my car is a confusing mix of 3.8 & 4.2. The starter switch was originally the remote starter solenoid for the dynamo. Simply put it’s a giant relay. I’ve been doing further head scratch...

Re: Slow Cranking and smoking terminations!

Yes I've been checking the S1 diagram and see the routing of the two brown cables.
I'm also convinced that the burning termination is a separate issue which is only highlighted during slow cranking but probably present all the time but at a less spectacular level.

Re: Slow Cranking and smoking terminations!

Marek Thanks for your comments. I always let the fuel pump run for a good 30 seconds before starting after a long layup. Even with very slow cranking it usually fires up. I have to hold my hand up installing the ignition relay after having the car conk out due to burnt contacts in the dashboard swit...

Re: Slow Cranking and smoking terminations!

A lot to think about here. Steve-yes there's a mistake concerning the fuel pump wiring-it definitely doesn't run 24/7! All-I've taken your suggestions onboard and will report back. This diagram is a work in progress. I've been trying to fathom out exactly what the PO had done with the addition of th...

Re: Slow Cranking and smoking terminations!

Thanks for all the replies. Just to clarify a few points:- All earth connection from the battery to the bodywork etc have all previously been checked, cleaned or replaced. The starter cranks normally at all times except after a long lay up. The brown cable loops from fuse 3 to the ammeter and then o...
