Re: Engine side frames

Hi Rob,

Fully agree about the usefulness of this forum, and while on the topic, I really appreciate the relative lack of "flaming" of others, excessive personal sensitivity and short tempers which have blighted some other forums which were previously useful and constructive.

Re: Engine side frames

Thanks, Steve, for the appreciative comments. Happy to discuss with anyone else needing help with this kind of thing. I also have pictures of many steps of the dismantling process, but don't think they will add much without explanation, which I don't have much time for right now. Sorry! Too busy enj...

Update Re: Engine side frames

After a lot of thinking and research, I decided, back in May this year, to tackle the job myself, and to take out the engine, gearbox, etc. and not try a piecemeal approach. In retrospect I'm glad I did it this way, as I think the "one side at a time" approach would just not have been practical - at...

Re: New Member with Gearbox Problem!

I'll have a quick look at my selector position this morning. If you pm me a phone number I could give you a call.

Re: New Member with Gearbox Problem!

Looks like you do have two gears engaged simultaneously. It should be possible to use a lever or strong screwdriver to return the selectors to neutral without removing anything else. The gap in the selectors needs to be alongside the spring loaded reverse plunger (the round one), so you need to move...

Re: New Member with Gearbox Problem!

Can you post a picture of how the selectors line up on the top of the gearbox? It would help with diagnosis.

Re: Vinyl Number Plate Removal.

You could try "sticky stuff remover" which is available from Lakeland - priced at under a fiver, and several other high street / online sources. Pre-softening with the help of sunshine etc. is a great help. Not used this on my e type but is has helped remove stickers safely and without paint damage ...

Re: Speedo cable issue

Hi Mark et. al. There is an access hole on the RHS of the tunnel on my S 1.5, which is factory fit. However, it looks like it's not that well positioned to get to the speedo drive attachment on the gearbox, being a bit too far back. However, it might be worth a go, just to see what you can access fr...

Hi Mark,

Note that parts cost alone is about £ 15 for the cable, and about £ 80 or so for the angle drive...

Re: Speedo cable issue

I have a 1.5 FHC and also had a failed speedo drive some years ago. I was able to get to the drive attachment, which is definitely on the right side of the box, without dropping the gearbox, or doing anything from under the car. My method was to disconnect the battery, remove the radio console, then...

Re: Crank pulley nut: huge breaker bar or impact driver/wrench?

Just removed the crank bolt today, after trying most of yesterday. Long breaker bar plus tube to add more leverage and judicious use of a lump hammer to put some shock loading into the joint, with the pulley anchored with a piece of angle iron drilled to take two of the four pulley bolts, and in con...

is is possible to remove and replace the engine side frames without removing the engine and gearbox? If it's possible, is it wise to do so???

I was in a state of (not so) mild panic when the Forum went AWOL over the past week-end. Glad it's back!

This is truly remarkable source of information and support.

Re:

Unfortunately only some fixing part numbers are made up of the code whilst others, including this bolt, just have regular BD. or C. numbers. If you find a part number that looks something like UCN113/L then the decoder in the Forum KB will tell you the exact specification. Jaguar Nuts, Bolts and Fa...
