Re: Hardtop fixing bolts

Just to close this out, I removed the plates and on viewing the threads from the rear it was obvious that they had been interfered with at some point. The plates have now been replaced.
Thanks for your help
Best regards and stay safe.

Hardtop fixing bolts

Can anyone advise the size of the chrome bolts that secure the hardtop just behind the seats. (the main fixing points). I have just received two from SNG but they are 1 size under the bracket fixing thread. It looks form my research that the V12 is the same size so not sure why I have this issue? An...

Re: head gasket woes

Tim do you know if your block was ‘decked’ (machined flat) dusting the engine refurb? If it was it is essential that the timing chest cover was in place otherwise the head cannot be pulled down flat.
Just a thought

Re: Setting tickover with different camshafts - JAG4 from Guy Broad

Sorry Phil, that's an old trope (which I have hinted at when selling S3 engines but been careful not to state directly!).

Agreed peter I should not have included ‘performance’ in my reference to S3 cams.

Re: Setting tickover with different camshafts - JAG4 from Guy Broad

Just been investigating this exact problem. It’s seems to be a well known issue whet using SU carbs. It’s better with Webber or equivalent whereby the idle is set by opening the butterfly and not using the air bypass valve on the SU I’ve discussed this with Chris Keith-Lucas, Rob Beere and John Moor...

Re: Coming up for auction

if you get the conditions wrong and use a carcoon it can be a nightmare (don't ask!) I suspect the car is hanging in rust due to condensation from the storage. if you zoom in on the wire wheels that confirms it for me. the under bonnet shot also shows lots of surface rust.

Re: Rear Caliper Bolts Too Long What Am I missing?

Its along time since I worked on this but I don't remember the bolts being to longer in order to remove the caliper. So you could investigate if they are the orig/correct length. The calipers are shimmed to center them on the disc. Unless they are way off most people don't refit them.

My experience is the same as Tims. In my case i obtained an endorsement from the Jaguar Drivers club to confirm the existence of the car. Re: Arriving at destination smelling like a spark plug.

definitely not normal. check all the bulkhead penetrations. those that are nor used must have plugs and those that are should have proper grommets. also the gearlever should be seal via various pieces of insulation. Obviously as per the previous post this assumes that you don't have an exhaust leak.
