Rubber V-mount dimensions
I‘m swapping the original US-Differential to a 3.07 unit, the IRS is out. The rubber V-mounts I have are about 8mm higher than the originals. Is this due to the old part settling, or may I have wrong parts? I don‘t mind wrestling them in, but will the added height be a problem once the IRS is back i...

Re: PhDone
Simon, late but sincere congratulations on earning your PhD! We met shortly in 2016, in Bicester. I recall you being in to chemistry. Great achievement now! Working in pharmaceutical chemistry should allow for for a nice E-Type, sooner or later. All the best for your career! My middle son is working...

Re: Not enough slack on timing chains
Just wondered if you all had any thoughts? As Andrew asked, we first need to know if you are attempting putting the chain on the fitted sprockets - this will not work since chains are too short for this. The chain is lifted on the loose sprockets, which together with the fitted chain are then fixed...

Re: Instrument panel: key left or right?
I was aware of these points, the key in the panel being handed left - right, was new to me. Of course, I have a S2 and only driven one S1 so I never noticed! Thanks for replies.A poorly converted car will have the traffic indicator stalk on the wrong side and the wipers parked on the wrong side.

Re: Instrument panel: key left or right?
So thanks Richard, thanks Steve. Obviously I‘ve never taken notice of the key side change! I‘ll be on the lookout. I’ll see if I can spot this on a local sales offer of a (converted) RHD FHC.

Instrument panel: key left or right?
I‘ve seen pictures of E-Types with the ignition key to the left of the cigar lighter, as well as to the right. Might some be of MK2 origin? Which is the correct side for the ingnition key? I hope it‘s not as simple as lhd/rhd? https://i.postimg.cc/cCZQtZrx/C5-CD17-C3-AC3-E-454-F-95-BD-A9864-BEDE8-F1...

Re: REPLACEMENT CARBS
Bill, the Strombergs will deliver adequately, once set up good. Adjustment possibilities are limited. What helped mine a lot was installung adjustable jets, that really made it possible to get them working well. I still have some fine tuning to do, but since the adjustables are installed at least I ...

Re: Fuel Pump no ticking when fuel line connected
OK so I opened the fuel line coming out of the filter head, nice pressure from there: https://youtube.com/shorts/V7AdDtzr7sc?feature=share This evening I‘ll take out out the paper filter and check the inside. It has has roughly 10tkm so needs a change anyway. Meanwhile after fuel flow check pump tic...

Fuel Pump no ticking when fuel line connected
A bit baffled here. Got back from England over 2000km no problems. Yesterday car won‘t start, no tick from the SU fuel pump. I‘ve taken the pump out and disconnected the fuel lines. Ticks nicely. Put the fuel lines back on, no more ticking. Is this pump a goner? 7 years old, around 10000km. After fi...

Re: '71, 4.2, S II brake fluid reservoir, heat shield
Mike, the heat shield shown in Steve‘s picture is the original one. It‘s very thin, stiff and brittle material, I believe it to contain asbestos. My original one which I broke a corner off :banghead: was painted silver, maybe original colour maybe not. I‘m still on the lookout for a used original pa...

Re: Roadster Interior mirror fixing
Here some measurements off my OTS, when I installed a new Pilkington windshield. This is where the mount was sitting on the old windshield. It is/was not centered. It also was not the original windshield I believe, since was stamped as Royal Doulton. So the measurements might be off. My mirror had a...

Re: E Type S2 gearbox mount
What makes you think it sits too high? Definitly loosen and adjust the engine stabilizer. Only fitting the locating bush and the spring pad (rubber ring under the spring) I don‘t see how the gearbox could be made to sit too high. I‘ve only done it twice, but setting the height of the engine/gearbox ...

Re: Where to buy a daily driver S1 4.2 FHC?
OK this is not a 4.2. If you get to picky you might end up looking for way too long. This just as an example of a RHD S1 3.8 FHC sold locally (southern Germany) last weekend for the equivalent of 51k£. No affiliation. I went to have a look w/o intention to buy. A US car, old restoration and lhd-rhd ...

Re: Radiator cowl foam seal
Paul, the foam was fitted to force air through the radiator, thus being a major part of the cooling system. After having my radiator overhauled, I couldn‘t bring it over myself to use glue or adhesive on the top box. I‘ve fitted aluminium brackets to the sides, holding the foam in place. Works fine ...
