Re: Octane Rating for SA V12

I ran my Pre HE V12 on 95 Octane fuel with no problems.
I reckon it did run better on 98, but lack of availability dictated using 95 most of the time.

Re: Series 3 seats

Hi Yes there is a modern option available see below from another poster. "Hi MX5 seats and fosway runners lower seats a good bit plus the seat goes further back and doesn't rub against hood frame, far more comfortable and keep your original seats in good condition for when you come to sell the car" ...

Re: Ignition rotor failure again.

Hi I had cap issues with my S3 as well. If you are getting oily contamination in the cap you may be getting fumes past the oring on the base of the distributor. Jaguar on the later v12s used a vented distributor cap, which relied on a slight vacuum from the air filter intake to ensure a flow of clea...

Re: Handbrake Adjustment

Hi
Is it the original handbrake cable?
Around 5 years ago I bought a new cable from SNG for my S3.
It turned out to be too long. So I reused the old one.

Re: Adjustable power steering

Hi Colin
Yes there is a service bulletin.
I don’t have it at the moment, but I’ll be home early may and will have a search.
Someone did post on the site, perhaps they will do so again.
Cheers

Re: Adjustable power steering

Have you already done the Jaguar mod which involves a simple 50 thou washer in the pump. It’s a simple mod to do without removing the pump, the mod reduces the pressure, and makes the feel of the steering less sensitive and more in touch, especially when cornering. I found that was all you need, and...

Re: Interesting Stromberg problem

Hi Philip, Thanks for posting this, my car has the same issue. I was going to check that the choke plate was in the correct orientation. Is this what you term as the enrichment valve? Now I have another thing to check, would spraying some inert gas around the valve with the engine running demonstrat...

Re: Speed Hump Scraping - Custom Exhaust

Hi Guys Looking at Oles car should be an inspiration to any restorer, hes done such a nice job. My car is at best a good driver. Hi Pete, no I’m not related to the South Island Browns. However the original starter motor from my car went down there to Temporo Ltd, the outfit that builds those fantast...

Re: Speed Hump Scraping - Custom Exhaust

Hi Joe, The Opus system continued into the early 80s, so you may still have it. In the video title photo you can see a small aluminium ribbed box just forward of the distributor, that’s the opus box. The SNG kit still uses the alloy box but fits the later HEI solid state module in it. Oles exhaust s...

Re: Speed Hump Scraping - Custom Exhaust

The ease of starting is also helped by fitting the later HEI ignition system as fitted to the later V12s. Sng Barratt do a nice replacement with a rebuilt dizzy as well. There is one with the vacuum advance fitted, get that one. If you still have the original OPUS system fitted, watch out, it will f...

Re: Speed Hump Scraping - Custom Exhaust

Ah yes the Joy of Jaguar motoring. Buy a set of Orings for those strombergs, the usuals have them. That fuel drips onto hot bits. Yes I upgraded to the geared starter, a vast improvement. Check out British starters.com there is a different number of teeth for the 1971 engine, check this. Red rubber ...

Re: Speed Hump Scraping - Custom Exhaust

Hi You will probably have to adjust the mixture if you open up the exhaust system. This shouldn't be too much of a challenge for a competent mechanic. here is a link to a you tube video I did of my car with just straight through center boxes and no rear box. https://youtu.be/VaFJJUHjcXk You can prob...

Re: Speed Hump Scraping - Custom Exhaust

Hi Here’s a couple of pics which may be of interest. I did use 2 1/4 inch pipes for my system. The hangers are modified to take modern rubber mounts, available at any exhaust shop. The first pic shows the amount we flattened the pipe under the IRS On the last pic you will see, if you look closely, t...

Re: Speed Hump Scraping - Custom Exhaust

Hi. Living down here in NZ we have lots of roads with poor surfaces, and lots of speed humps. My car used to graunch all over the place so serious intervention was required. I would check your rear ride height, the figures are in the manual. To get it right required spacers under my Koni shocks. The...

Re: Brake master cylinder reaction valve spring

Hi Paul Sorry, I misunderstood where your large spring was. That is most unusual. I was talking about the small spring in the nose of the valve, it’s not shown in the diagrams, but can be accessed by popping the nose off the end of the valve. This is the one that some recommend to replace with a sli...

Re: Brake master cylinder reaction valve spring

Hi There was a solution offered to reaction valve problems that involved fitting a slightly stronger spring than the original. I think it was to ensure the small piston that the reaction valve operates will always return. If it doesn’t you can get sticking brakes. Your spring may be an attempt to im...

Re: Jagurar E Type S3 on Elevator

Hi Marco My mechanic uses a lift the same as the one pictured. For the front we use the jacking points as fitted to the car. Just put the rubber pad a little off center to get a clear lift. For the rear it is a little more difficult. You cannot position the rubber lifting pads on the jacking points ...
