Re: Timing? Carburation?
Definitely sounds like not enough advance. All the above advice is quite correct, but an easy test is to just manually advance the distributor (turn clockwise) to see if that improves the performance. If it does, then the distributor is not providing enough mechanical advance. You could leave it lik...

Re: Lazy Starting
Hi Jerome,
I’ve just measured the lever gap on the S1 in my workshop with the choke fully on - 10mm. This is at B in your picture. Not quite the 5/8” as per the manual but this car starts perfectly from cold. Also, all three levers move this exact same amount.

Re: Lazy Starting
Hi Jerome,
From memory, each lever holding the mixture screw should be pushed up at least 5mm. I should be able to test and measure later today. Obviously, all three should be lifted by the same amount. If they don’t, you need to adjust the inter-connecting choke rods.

Re: Lazy Starting
Hi Jerome, The gaps at A and B have nothing to do with choke adjustment directly. The screw at B is the mixture adjustment and shouldn’t be touch (unless you need to adjust mixture!) The only real choke adjustment is the silver screw NEXT to C in your picture. It should be adjusted to be just clear ...

Yes, that is the tacho from the earlier S1 car that uses the AC generator on the back of the camshaft.

Re: Oil pressure, one more round
It’s probably just the calibration of your gauge or sender. The only real test is to temporarily attach a capillary gauge (mechanical) to show real pressure.

Re: E-Type Fabs / Classic Fabs Exhaust System Price?
Hi there (what’s your name?), I recently fitted a Jaguar Heritage exuast and it certainly wasn’t mis-aligned as yours. I reckon yours has been damaged in storage or shipping. Mine fitted perfectly. Whatever your decision, you definitely need to return yours and either get a replacment or refund. Go ...

Re: Moss box help
Hi Mike,
There are only three places oil can leak out the rear housing - the gasket, the speedo drive or the rear seal. Are you sure it’s not leaking from the top cover or selector rod and running down the sides?

Yes, I moved them to somewhere where they had a chance of working! Factory placement was indeed either side of the radio console as per your console.

Re: Center console, originality
Hi Mikael, Your tunnel cover should have a matching aluminium top cover and red vinyl sides. Similarly, the missing radio console should also have a matching front cover and red vinyl sides (where the speaker grills are, but are a total waste of time - but that’s a whole other conversation!). The ge...

Re: 67 xke coupe 6 cylinder sender
Hi Mike, I photo might help to identify what you are seeing, however there shouldn’t be any other sender forward of the oil cleaner assembly. It sounds like a previous owner has fitted an additional sender into one of the oil gallery plugs along the side of the block. It may be for a low oil pressur...

Re: Hello - SW UK
I’ve rebuilt all three models of the S1 over the years and have some good comparison photos of the shape differences between the FHC and 2+2. Apart from the rear hatch, all the glass in the 2+2 is different. The doors are about 9” longer and the body tub is larger. The bonnet is identical. The headr...

Re: Front gearbox oil seal
Hi Andersen, I’m not sure if there should be a flange or not, but either way, the seal should be a very tight, interference fit and should not ever fall out; the flange should not affect whether it falls out or not. Also, I’m not too sure whether the flange would make any difference as there is not ...

Re: Roadster windscreen rubbers
Hi Andrew, I didn’t have any problems when I refitted a set recently - in fact they went on easily. The OTS screen rubber came from COH Baines. The chrome trim along the lower front however, was a whole different story! The new screen rubber was indeed very soft and pliable. Presume your hockey stic...
