Re: Exhaust Fumes from rear

Hi Peter, With the roof up and the windows closed I did not notice a problem. I think the air vents on the later cars maintain a positive cabin pressure in those conditions. Nor did I notice a problem with the roof down, but I have an air screen behind the seats. However with the roof up and either ...

Re: Exhaust Fumes from rear

Hi Peter, My car is a 74 OTS with a twin fantail that is set as far back as possible so that it is in line with the rear bumper; it also has the fresh air vents. It displayed exactly the symptoms you describe. When I first had it the luggage would reek of exhaust fumes after any length of run. There...

Re: Exhaust Fumes from rear

Hi Peter, I suffered from this on my OTS for a long time and tried many things to solve the problem. In the end it was only after driving a long distance over dusty roads that I discovered there are many more leakage paths than is immeadiately obvious. In my case the worst culprit was the rear light...

Re: Air Pump

Hi David,
From the posts above it looks like you may have already found what your need. If not I ordered a Cardone 32-107 via ebay a couple of years ago, with shipping to the UK it came to about $175. It fitted my 1973 OTs with no problems.

Re: series 3 vs Series 1

Hi Andrew, If anyone wants to add any more views on the hotting up of the series 3 drive dynamics I would be interested in hearing opinions. thanks Andrew My FHC has Gaz dampers, polybushes all round and SUs. My OTS has Boge, Mealastics and Strombergs. IMHO the OTS is a much nicer car to drive. We h...

Re: Series 3 2+2 1972 - Ignition Issues

Just a thought: one thing that is very easily done when rebuilding these carbs is to fit the "choke" discs the wrong way round which will obviously result in a very rich mixture at all times. The diagrams in the manuals are none to clear and easy to misinterpret. Might be worth double checking. Cheers

Brilliant write up, much appreciated.
Perhaps a bit harsh on SNGB, who overall provide us all with a great service?

Re: Question about a 1.5 model and headlight covers

David,
Re the extract from the JCNA I have 1E34500, a LHD FHC, open headlights but otherwise all seems to be S1.
The Heritage Cert gives a build date of 26 June 67. So this supports the comment that there was a typo in the build records and that the Spares Bulletin data is correct.

Re: Nightmare: new windscreen for series 3 OTS

Hi Holger, I ordered direct from Pilkington and had it delivered direct to me by their own transport. Although it was not an easy job I fitted it myself without too many problems and am very happy with the result. They offer many options: top tint, sundym, heated, radio aerial etc so its worth decid...

Re: Tuning Problems V12

Hi Mike, Your description of the symptoms you have suffered sound very much like those that I had after an engine rebuild. In that case it turned out that the cold start mechanism in the carbs had been fitted 180 deg out so that in effect the cold start was always operating even with the control pus...

Another option is Zicoflex or similar. Very easy to trim to size and might do a better job as a heat shield.

Hi Marek,
You could try this:
https://aaoil.co.uk/product-category/ra ... rage-fuel/
98 octane & ethanol-free but not cheap.

Re: S3 V12 Stromberg/Dizzy vacuum pipes

There is a lot of information about Octane numbers here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating#Difference_between_RON,_MON,_and_AKI From the table it looks as though your 92 (AKI) Octane fuel would behave like 97 (RON) fuel in the UK so the 12 deg timing setting might be OK and the 8 deg setti...

Brake Vapour Lock

On a recent run up from Cadiz through Spain & Portugal in my S3 OTS I experienced repeated episodes of vapour lock in the brakes. Car was fully loaded with luggage, tools and spares and ambient temperatures were 30 deg plus. The route included several significant climbs and descent; time controls on...

Re: What problems with Crankcase Breather fitted this way?

Hi Sandy, By connecting the breather that way it is upstream of the throttle butterflies and so will not be seeing the manifold vacuum. It certainly will not work as intended and might make the engine more prone to leak oil from e.g. the crankshaft seal. If the engine is in poor shape oil mist may a...
