Quality highly recommended body shop
Afternoon all, Admin, hopefully this post in this forum is acceptable, if not please remove and advise me. My 1968 2+2 E type is currently under the knife...or welder/grinder in Shapemasters Panelcraft just down the road from Luton airport. James heads up the operation, he's unbelievably talented wh...

Cylinder head identification
Afternoon, I was looking at some posts on Jag lovers about cylinder head markings. All seemed a tad confusing and vague and I didn't get to far searching this forum...lots of hits on Cylinder and head etc. perhaps i should be searching smarter :?: Anyway here's some pics of my head. (currently sat i...

Re: Inside engine block. Glyptal or not?
Nice Pics Jeremy, thanks. From your post I guess the engine is back in the car and running. The reason for my initial enquiry about Glyptal was its ability to withstand modern oils etc. Some folks were saying it peeled off and clogged the oil pump, others said it worked fine. Then as per the earlier...

Inside engine block. Glyptal or not?
Hi, I had my engine block, crank and head all taken care of a couple of years ago. Car is still being restored so the cylinder head that has been rebuilt and set up and crank, that was polished and balanced with all the various crank mounted components, were all bagged up and sit on my parts complet...

Re: Differential-Mounting for inner fulcrum shafts-shims
Hello Dave, Good spot. This diff did come out of my 68 car, but it is indeed a 1965 build diff. Alan at AJS did flag this when I picked it up. I think this whole strip down and component overhaul has flagged up a number of anomalies on my car, this being one of them. I've tried to go back and get as...

Re: Differential-Mounting for inner fulcrum shafts-shims
Steve, Bill,
Thanks for the info much appreciated and something of a relief. Not as major a problem as I'd first thought.
Still to get cage and mounts cleaned sand blasted and painted up. Will let you know how getting it all back together goes.
Thanks again.
Kev

Differential-Mounting for inner fulcrum shafts-shims
Evening all, I've a bit of a dilema regarding the above. See picture below: https://i.imgur.com/EVctpLd.jpg I took the above when dismantling the diff to send to AJS engineering for overhaul. Now done and looking a treat. (See image below) When I took off the mountings, these two shims were on one s...

Re: Bump Stops in rear arches
OK, well I went away for a couple of days and when I come back find I've a lot of reading to do  Also I'll get a picture of my current shocks and springs arrangement. there seems to be a similar fitting on the top of the springs to that shown in a picture on this thread. THE IRS has clearly ...

Bump Stops in rear arches
Evening all, Re the below image. Can anyone tell me if what I'm referring too as a "Bump Stop" is available to buy as a stand alone assembly? The complete assembly is a hard rubber, almost circular bush, mounted in a metal holder which is in turn welded to the bracket assembly https://i.imgur.com/cf...

Rear Hub Carriers
Hi, I've spent Easter stripping down the IRS and having completed that moved on too dismantling the component parts, first of those being the o/s the hub carrier Firstly a question relating to how they came off the IRS. Whilst working on the o/s of the IRS, banging and clattering away with drifts et...

Re: Floor pan fittings
Thanks Steve.
When it comes to doing the interior my plan was to instal KoolMat, then carpet/trim on top. I'm assuming (again) that I wouldn't need these fittings given that approach?

Re: IRS hub strip down
Thank you gents for your detailed descriptions of how to proceed. Unfortunately I now have options and as the present Mrs Byard will confirm, I'm never great when I have options.
I'll let you know how I get on and which route was successful.

IRS hub strip down
Hi, I'm a little confused about how to proceed with removing the hub carriers from my IRS. Most of the images that I have in books and manuals show a hub with wheel mounting studs being pulled off the hub carrier. What do i do with mine? https://i.imgur.com/jvAQDmG.jpg Do I pull the splined drive of...

Question about mounting the sills
Hi, Regarding fitting new sills to my 2+2. The sills that I have from Martin Robey seem to "flair out" (for want of a better description) at the front. Is this a correct configuration. The existing sills (which were welded in by an agricultural engineer!) appear to be squared up to the sill line, bu...

Body and front frame alignment diagram
Hi, I've a copy of the series 1 and series 2 service manual. In the book is a front frames and body alignment diagram. It shows key datum points and measurements in inches and cm's for what looks like a FHC car. Is there a diagram available anywhere showing the same data for a series 1.5 2+2 car and...
