Without cutting the body the 4L60 is not a viable alternative.
I suspected as much, thanks.

But.... It sure would transform the car hugely.

Re: Engine Tuning issues Early UK Series 3

i would remove air filters and rev it up while watching to make sure that the slides are all lifting and topping out on full throttle I don't think one should expect full lift of those air valves without the engine being under significant load and at high revs. Never tried it myself though, so I do...

Re: Engine Tuning issues Early UK Series 3

Does the Pertronix 9LU-1122A Ignitor II work with the Reopus Amplifier or is it removed and the module does all the work? The Petronix is an all-in-one unit with pickup and ignition amp elegantly all inside the dissy. Only wires needed is Ground, 12V and Coil-. Only other item needed is the coil. O...

Re: Engine Tuning issues Early UK Series 3

Ignition system is a ReOpus unit, believed to be good. You can not assume the ReOpus to be good. My own 2+2 was fitted with ReOpus when the car still belonged to my friend. The car had a persistent misfire. Which could not be cured with timing setting, carbs setting and clean plugs. He has a electr...

Found this Hex head Bolt among my spares: 1/4" x 6" UNC

Where might this be used?

Re: Needles for SU carb conversion

if I set the AFR to give a good AFR on the road (13.5:1), then it is massively rich (10:1 and black smoke) at idle. I don't know what exactly "on the road" means but 12.5-13.5 is what you should have at full throttle conditions and off-idle. For steady cruise, level road situations you should have ...

Re: Worst plugs ever seen?

2SO DE-COKES a non-cat, non O2-sensored engine.... among many other advantages. I'll elaborate: Using two-stroke oil (2SO) as an additive (approx 200:1) on a non-cat, non-o2-sensored petrol and diesel engines does many good things, the main ones being: softening and eventual removal of the carbon d...

Coking up an engine by burning a 2SO mix could certainly raise compression, but why would you want to do that?

took the advice of others on this forum and added some good quality 2 Stroke oil to the tank.
Interesting!! I'm a big fan of 2SO in old engines as well! Pity you did not measure compression before and after adding 2SO. That might have been interesting too!

Re: B W 12 Automatic gearbox

both mechanical and vacuum advance. 1. Vacuum ADVANCE? Are you sure? 2. What ignition system does it have? 3. Are the carbs balanced? (Using a proper air flow measuring device? Balancing by ear is, IMO, NOT balanced) If not balanced properly, you could have it idle at the desired idle speed with on...

Re: Hot Running Issues

Thanks Phillip. I have moved the amplifier to the front of the picture frame as Rob advised and so far, it looks like it has resolved the issue but I will take it on a longer run to get a bit more confidence. I strongly recommend you replace that OPUS anyway. It is NOT a good ignition system in man...

Re: Changing coolant V12

0. Is there a simple way to analyse whether the anti-corrosion additives in silicate cooling water (that is still clear and of blue-green color) are still effective? The total amount of cooling water in the V12 engine is approximately 20 litres. 1. How many litres does the "small" cooling water cir...

If the issue is not OPUS (and that would be my first guess also) then have a read of this: https://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=16143&p=132421#p132421 There is a very cost effective upgrade for OPUS in my opnion: https://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=18921&p=157064&hilit=pertronix#p...

I know that when I eventually fit the air cleaners the long one will attach to the front of the unit which controls the flap and the short one will attach to the RH rear inlet manifold and the same on the LHS equivalent. Hopefully so far I am on the right track ?? This is correct, yes. You can veri...

Re: Etype V12 Thermostat Recommendation

The manual states 82'c thermostats. You want a thermostat which opens out far enough to let it's bottom perch to block off the bypass. Marek Adding to what Marek says, the thermostats MUST have that extra little circular plate, which is actually a valve that closes the radiator bypass circuit, IF (...

Re: Ally rad and fans, Radtec, NAR, other?

Both my S3's are running with alu radiators made by a small radiator service outlet in a small town called Knysna in South Africa... Both cars are running with vacuum advance fed directly from manifolds. This results in full vacuum advance being applied at idle (and under all very light throttle rpm...

1. the original ballast resistor (i.e. pre SNGB, "OPUS days") was required to ensure 12 volts to the 9 volt coil when starting the engine. After starting when the ignition key was returned to position II the voltage to the coil was reduced to 9 volt In many ignition systems, the ballast resistor is...

Re: One cylinder flooding when starting from cold

I have the Reopus system installed This is where I would start . One bad ferrite bar in the disk could lead to weak spark on that cyl... I have no faith in OPUS or REOPUS. FWIW, I'll elaborate on my opinion about suspecting OPUS/REOPUS. I believe your method of replacing a visibly wet plug with a d...
