Re: Flintkote on 4.2 FHC boot floor

Paul, there is a possibility that it was only fitted to the fixed heads as more noise would be heard through the boot in these cars. The OTS cars had insulation on the rear bulkhead.

Re: S2 LHD/RHD steering conversion

I think you must have the rectangular air filter canister and not the drum and plenum type? If so, you can either modify the air cleaner or fit the earlier drum and plenum. (FWIW, I don’t think the factory produced a RHD car with twin carbs so didn’t have this problem).

A great read Mark and I am delighted the car performed well. I know I like my customers to use their cars but you have taken it to the extreme! Well done and it goes to show just how resilient these cars are. Brilliant!

If that doesn't cure it, swap out the Petronix for points and change the coil. See if that does it.

Re: Footwell Vent upgrade

Just push it in. We used a little bit of glue (Stixall) to hold it in place. When the heater box is fitted, it doesn't move.

Re: Jaguar Mark IX

My father had one too and I remember trips to the coast to visit an eccentric great Aunt. The car was magical and absolutely huge. Move on 50 years later and a friend imported an unrestored, complete and original one from the States. I borrowed it for a trip to the same coast with my siblings. What ...

Interesting comment!

"Decades of experience has shown us that the weak point on many classic cars – and Jaguar cars in particular – is the gearbox."

Re: Rear Shock absorbers

Andrew, mine was made specifically to do E type rear springs only. The shock assy sits in a frame and a bottle jack compresses the spring in order to draw the colletts out.

Re: UK registered car or export?

The chassis number will determine if it is genuine RHD or not. If it has a RHD chassis number then it will be considered a genuine UK car.

Re: Proof of age of engine and gearbox

One thing about E types is that nothing appears definitive! I wouldn't swear one way or the other it's just that every time l have looked for it, l've found the casting date.

The engine block casting date is under the exhaust manifold. I think the gearbox is also dated.

They are renowned for leaking from the sump gasket. Its a simple job to cure. Might be worth getting it in the air to check.
