Re: Handbrake pivot bolt

Check you can see the groove for the circlip first. If you can’t, someone might have riveted the end of pin over.

Open Day April 2019

Following on from the huge success of last years Open Day, we are proposing holding another in the new workshops (no more country lanes!) on the 20th April 2019. I will also see if Julian Barratt wants to attend and maybe have a small stall in a corner. Could be a good venue to collect parts? As bef...

Re: Overdrive in 2+2

Steve, confirm the ball pein hammer for the right angle drive. We have to cut the propshaft tunnel at the front on both of the cars to provide a bit of room. As you say, the tolerances in those days.......

Re: Overdrive in 2+2

We've done a couple of these in S2 2+2s. You have to create a space in the transmission tunnel (RHS towards the rear) in order to clear the (I think) speedo drive. You then have to put a 2" cut at the back of the tunnel (top where the propshaft exits) as the overdrive unit is slightly wider at this ...

Re: Advice on engine frame please!

Malcolm, the issue with repairing old frames is that the chances are that the metal is thin because of corrosion. Unless you are 100% sure that the frames are solid throughout, change them.

Re: Advice on engine frame please!

New frames. I would recommend replacing both sides if they are both of the same vintage. Lots of info regarding welding these frames is available if you search it out. That is a disaster waiting to happen!

Good episode - shame that the original OTS that Will was describing has been repainted, chromed and re-trimmed 🙁

Re: Torsion bars shields do what exactly?

If protecting them was the objective Pete, there are much simpler ways of achieving it? I cannot believe they fitted such an expensive, hard to fit item just to protect the torsion bars.

Re: Winter jobs - any views?

I wouldn't bother rebuilding the propshaft. You are better off fitting a new one as the UJs wear, the sliding yoke wears, the yoke where the UJ bearing is held down with a circlip wears and the chances are it is out of balance. Poly steering rack mounts are good - we have just fitted a set of metala...

Had one open on me many years ago at 70mph. Remembered not to brake and instantly fitted the missing safety catch! Only damage was to the over riders.

Re: London Auction

Its a sad time indeed and nobody wins. I think some people are too quick to forget the good that JD have done for the industry and when I see the gloating going on on other forums, it saddens me. 60 good guys are worried about their futures (one has 4 years left to go for retirement) and it will be ...
