Re: Christopher Storey

Extremely sad news. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends at such a sad time. Chris always posted sensible and thoughtful advice based on considerable knowledge and experience. He will be sadly missed by all of us in the E type community. Hopefully David or Steve can contact his family ...

Re: Oil pressure, one more round

So pre rebuild (by CMES in Bracknell -excellent job btw!) my oil pressure indication was maybe 30 PSI on start falling back to less than 20...electric gauge but I did test it using a compressor at sample pressures and it wasn't a million psi out. Post rebuild it leaps to 60 psi and there it remains....

Re: Overflowing Fuel

Either the float has sunk or the float is stuck or most likely the float valve is stuck or a bit of detritus is stuck in the valve. Take the top off the housing and investigate? Modern fuels may damage the tip of the valve as they are usually rubbed tipped...mostly Delrin tipped...although in two mo...

Re: No spark

I'd start by checking the coil primary for continuity...should be a couple of ohms. Check you have 12 volts at the coil supply with the ignition on. Next remove the HT lead from the coil to cap at the cap end and connect it directly to a plug. Make sure the plug is grounded and get a friend to open ...

Re: Does this description sound accurate to you?

Probably. The original probably had four terminals but two were commoned. The replacements will just have three terminals as the switch is just a single pole changeover and probably sourced from an electronic components supplier...and will be rated at 10 amps/250 volts max. Just connect blue to the ...

Re: Could this be the cause?

Considering most folk may need the tool maybe once a year (lifetime!) max I would simply make one from a thin (1 mm thick) sheet of steel suitably notched and filed at the top as £28 for the flashy knurled one....really!
Or as others have suggested...thin long nose pliers or circlip pliers!

Re: Merry Christmas, and exhaust question

Agree....the one in the picture does look a bit tired. Incidentally I spray paint mine with high temp exhaust paint (sperex) dries to a grey-black. Looks fine. Lasts maybe 3 years. A rattle can of paint costs less than £20! Much cheaper than re-enamel coating or the other fancy ceramic coatings whic...

Re: Merry Christmas, and exhaust question

Not sure your new downpipe is compatible with the manifold. On original pipes, from memory, the flange is pretty much the same as on the manifold. The sealing doughnut sits snugly in the recess in both the manifold flange and exhaust downpipe flange. I apply a good smear of sealant paste, bring the ...

Welcome! Your story sounds like mine but I took just 40 years....it was worth the wait! Re: Engine intermittantly cutting out.

As originally wired though the coil supply is not fused (white wire) so it may be the ignition switch As they do fail. As you have an electronic ignition fitted it may be a fused supply to this that is the issue...

Re: Engine intermittantly cutting out.

If it suddenly cuts out is electrical. I'd suspect a fuse to start with. Old fuses had the wire soldered to the end caps. Cheap modern ones have the wire fed through the glass tube and the end caps interference fitted. They come loose. The wire doesn't connect well to the cap. If not the fuse the ol...

Re: JDC JEC or E-type club

I would agree with the sentiments regarding e type club tours. Far too expensive... I do wonder if those planning the tours have forgotten that not everyone who runs an E is rich....most owners are not, me included! Rather than tours to the Alps or exotic French locations they might gain a wider int...

Re: JDC JEC or E-type club

I'm in the E type club, the JDC and also the MGOC. Has to be said that for all of them, after a while the articles do repeat. There is only so much one can write about when focusing on a specific marque or model. So they have all done restorations, suspension mods, trim, maintenance, accessories and...
