Re: Engine stalls after 3-5 secs (and has very sooty plugs)

I had exactly the same problem about 2 years ago. The culprit was a faulty condenser.
Maybe try that. Good luck

Re: original radio

I have an official UK Jaguar price list from 1970 and it shows "Radio 1080T with pull up aerial for E-Types at £36.00 plus £11.00 purchase tax total £47.00.

My 1970 car has a Motorola push button but not sure of the model which was already installed when I bought the car 40 years ago.

FWIW. My car has a build date of 1 April 1970 and it it definately OEW not cream. The heritage cert shows cream. I have owned the car for 39 years.

Triple SU's

Hello Friends

If I turn the slow running screws anti-clock do I increase the air flow into the carbs and thus weaken the mixture. So then I need to adjust the mixture screws to compensate.

Many thanks for your time in replying.

I live about 8 miles from Immingham but it's too early for me to confirm if I'm available due to business commitments. Pass his details on in a pm and I'll contact him.

I believe the wire is an anti-squeal ring. I bought 2 genuine Jaguar discs about 15 years ago and they were difficult to source then.

My 1970 E-Type does not have a LSD so it could be later. I believe for the series 2 it was optional.

Rough running

Hi I have sorted out my mixture problems but another problem has reared its ugly head. After about 10 miles or so the car starts to misfire under load (acceleration). The tacho starts to bounce (electric) if thats a clue. I have fitted a new coil (correct one) and plugs but no difference. Before I r...

Stud Part no. C33377

Hi

Can anyone measure the cross-section of the hex. stud that is used on the late S.2 coil mounting bracket. It attaches to the front frame. My car is missing it.
Many thanks

Running rich ( conclusion)

Hello All Thanks for all the help with the problem. Weaked mixture by 0.5 turn and CO on both exhausts is now 4.6. Car runs well. BUT! Was at car show on Sunday and coming home all was normal. When home I switched off to move cars about and when I started it ran like it was on 4 or 5 cyclinders. I l...

Running rich (continued)

Had car in for MOT this morning (it passed) and whilst there the tester checked the exhaust emissions when I mentioned the problems I'm having. I know it's not necessary but he did it as a favour. Well at 2500 revs it read 5.6% (a little high) but at tick over it read 8.3% (very high). So how is the...

Running rich part 2

Thanks for all the help. I have now reset everything as per the manual (again) and using a colourtune the mixture seems correct on plugs 1 & 6 (they're the easiest to take out). Tickover steady at 6-700 revs but after running plugs are still black and car misfires (runs rough). I think what has happ...

I adjusted the mixture by setting the jets to level with the bridge then turning the screws 2.5 turns (as per manual). I then fine tuned them using digital depth gauge to set all at 75 thou.
