Re: Worst plugs ever seen?

Not wishing to state the obvious, but looks like there has been a coolant leak in that area!

Re: Series 3 Oil Pressure Gauge

When I converted to mechanical gauge I removed the face dial from the original electrical gauge and fitted to the new mechanical gauge. Looks perfect and works great.

Re: Setting up Strombergs

The large breather grommet on the left bank should be a good seal with clamps. The other area circled on the front of the right bank is approximately where the cam chain adjuster grommet is. No clamps on this one, just a firm push to fit. My car needs fuel choke to start and run for a minute or so, ...

Re: Setting up Strombergs

Nothing wrong with Strombergs on the V12. I have mentioned this before in other posts, are you sure there are no leaks in the induction/ engine breather system? Air leaks could be your problem. There are a couple of 3-4mm pipe fittings on the inlet manifolds which were vacuum ports for the inlet val...

Re: Windshield and seat height

Have you had new seat foams?

The new foams are much denser. I had about an inch skimmed off the bottom of the foam to lower the seat base height which helped a lot. Over the years the foams have compressed a bit as well which has resolved the issue. At 6’3” I am now comfortable with the seat height.

Re: Body jig

Hi Peter, I don’t know what CMC charge per hour but I guess it reflects their reputation. There must be a couple of days work setting up the body on a jig. I would say really worth giving Rod a call even if only to get a comparison cost. He is a Jaguar apprentice trained sheet metal worker, all he d...

Re: Body jig

Peter, if you want a company to set the body up on a jig try Rod Jay RJ Panels near Bedworth.

Rod built my S3 roadster body some years ago and made an excellent job of it.

Re: Cosmetics

Hi Peter, I had my torsion bars shot blasted and powder coated about 15 years ago now and still as good as when first done. I masked off the splines with duct tape before powder coating. I think I had them done by the same company you mentioned in another post down Bayton Road. They did (perhaps sti...

Re: Mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge

Hi Pete, Yes, I did the conversion last year as one of many jobs I was able to do during lockdown. The original sender unit had been playing up for some time and did buy a replacement sender from SNG some time ago, however after reading so many comments about replacement senders failing after a shor...

Re: Engine lifting frame

An engine load leveller does make the job a lot easier as you need to gradually steepen the angle of the engine and box as you extract the unit to clearthe bulkhead/ engine frames. I use this: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/cll500-load-leveller/?da=1&TC=GS-020110900&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIiq7lofL27gIVkB...

Not tried this on a V12 oil pump but a great method for rapid priming my classic Honda motorcycle pumps is to pack the pump with Vaseline.

Worth a try if all else fails.

Re: Ethanol

The other problem with ethanol is that it absorbs water It can then rot anything aluminium that it touches if left for long periods Like the insides of your carbs Its really nasty I am going to switch to esso from now on Joe Agree, Ethanol is hydroscopic and therefore will also rot your fuel tank!

Re: Engine out

It’s a straight forward job to remove engine and gearbox with the bonnet off by using an engine crane.

I don’t know if the V12 can be lowered through the frames.

Re: What Causes Petrol to Leak from the Exhaust

Hi George Vacuum issues will only lead to weak mixtures, not rich. Have you checked that none of the carb float needles are sticking open. Remove air cleaners, turn ignition on to run fuel pump and look into each carb. (Don't start engine). Is fuel visibly squirting up from a main jet ? Hi Bob, In ...
