Are these S1 bumpers correct?
Hi All, My project car came with rear bumpers already fitted, but the front ones were still in their sealed bags. I also have what I presume were the originals. I compared the two the other day and found that not only were the brackets very different, but the bracket nearest the centre is in totally...

Re: 63 Coupe project, Where to begin?
Thanks Julian, The PO has included many $$$$ of brand new items with the car but missing are seats, screen, and lots of interior upholstery bits and bobs. Many upgrades are on my mind including a 5 speed box and brake upgrades as well as a set of new wheels...too many things to think about all at on...

Re: Seat rail availability or seat options for 63 Coupe
Hi, that makes sense. The old chap was pretty sure they were E Type....I hadn’t thought S3. Obviously the floor is different and there is no crossmember in the way. Still wondering if there is some way of making these work?

Seat rail availability or seat options for 63 Coupe
I’ve been going through all the parts supplied with the new project. From the beginning I was aware the the original 3.8 buckets were missing, but a pair of later 4.2 seats were supplied.(along with new foams, and full covers) The rail mechanism was quite different to my S2 so I’m fairly sure the se...

Re: 63 Coupe project, Where to begin?
As noted in an earlier post, getting the heater pipes and wiper mechanism in place in the bulkhead/ dash void should be done first - particularly the washer jets and their associated nylon hoses. I did those first, followed by the wiper mech, then the s/s heater pipes. If you are doing it on your o...

Re: 63 Coupe project, Where to begin?
I would check fit of the rear lights to the body.. my body/paint shop will not shape the rear lower body without trial fitting the lights first. I would second the aircon in the coupe..I’ve fitted the Clayton classics system and it’s been great this summer to have cool air coming from he footwell u...

Re: 63 Coupe project, Where to begin?
Alan, it must get quite warm some months of the year for you. Have you considered air con to make the car more usable throughout the year? There are a few companies doing retrofit kits and they get good reviews. Something to consider before you start putting everything back in place? Good luck with...

Re: 63 Coupe project, Where to begin?
Waxoil it.....well before you have any clean bits on ..! More photos needed.... All the best Jonathan Good idea. I’m going to get out the inspection camera and have a good poke around inside to see what’s been done. As someone else started this project, much of what bend done already is a mystery

Re: 63 Coupe project, Where to begin?
Thanks guys, The tank is brand new and is yet to be fitted. On the plus side, the water pipes behind the firewall and the wiper rack are in and secured. I’d had fun with these on my S2. You know how it goes after struggling for several hours and it’s finally done. “Well, that was fun” is the usual c...

Re: 63 Coupe project, Where to begin?
Hi Barrie, I’ve already done the inspection and spent five hours on site. I’m under no illusion that parts will be needed but have ticked off the big ticket items like pedal box, instruments, heater box, Radiator, Screenjet bottle, fluid bottles, header tank, exhaust system etc There are many double...

63 Coupe project, Where to begin?
Hi All, I’ve had my ‘70 S2 coupe for several years now and it’s pretty much sorted, but then out of the blue the purchase of a late 63 coupe presented itself. It’s a well progressed project, basically a finished rolling shell that has only had door latches and wiring loom installed Apart from that i...

Mine appeared to be painted silver/aluminium but being an Aussie delivered S2, they also painted the bonnet chrome, eyebrows and headlight surrounds.

Re: Stripped Exhaust flange thread. Can it be repaired with a Helicoil?
Hi Charlie, yes, the original manifolds were filed, linished and polished prior to a Ceracoat ceramic process inside and out. Very long lasting. Still looks great 3000 miles later.

Re: Accelerator pedal - play in shaft
Yep as above, missing the spacer, but the nyloc nut is essential as this does not do up “tight” like a normal bolt and nut. Just nip it up till all the free play is removed but the pedal moves freely through the arc. Cheers. Al

Stripped Exhaust flange thread. Can it be repaired with a Helicoil?
When I recently put my exhaust system back on after the engine rebuild I was concerned one of the studs at the flange didn't have a lot of grip in the newly threaded hole. Unfortunately this proved to be the case and I have had to resort to a 3/8 bolt through, which just doesn't look that great. htt...

Re: Engine hesitation (S2 triple SU)
Hi Just wondering if this issue was resolved? I am here as I also had a hesitation as described. After much contemplation I was convinced my issue was ignition so I ordered a 123 distributor. Once fitted the difference was immediate. The idle was smoother and the hesitation was gone. It’s a differen...
