Re: Car radio
For info, just fitted a Classic Car Stereo 200 (auto sound) in my ots using an autosound DAB/FM powered cable splitter on my traditional telescopic metal aerial (£20). The results using DAB radio stations have been successful. Firstly using the powered supply didn’t work but disconnecting the power ...

Tony hasn’t time passed, I remember when that garage was built, looking a little matured now.

1962 OTS engine bay & dash board new wiring loom
Hi all I’m looking to renew the engine and dash original wiring loom on a 1962 LHD OTS which is evidently tired. The car has been converted to negative earth and has an alternator along with Ray Livingstone’s EDIS conversion. My plan is to possible convert to RHD some time in the future so would lik...

Re: Wheel sizes
For my tuppence worth... 6” rims with 185/15, the extra 1” rim width protrudes outwards reducing the tram like carriage appearance. I have 2 sets, SP sport Aquajet and XVS, the 185 XVS’s speak for themselves with regards to precise steering etc... They just look & handle right for the cars period......

Re: Garage / workshop
Hi Richard Another thought is to lower the floor of your garage, as you were thinking of digging a pit anyway. I lowered my floor at the front by only 15cm which allows me to drive in level onto the ramps of a 4 poster. You could lower the floor further but would have to use a 4 post ramp lift to al...

Re: New locking boot cable hasn’t lasted a day! Now unable to open boot
As an update, sng have sent an improved boot cable which naturally I’ve checked and fitted. All appears ok and so an eventual satisfactory outcome of which I’m grateful that sng were honest and accepted this product wasn’t initially up to their standard. Thanks to Julian Barratt for being pro active...

Re: New locking boot cable hasn’t lasted a day! Now unable to open boot
Update: After further research I managed to open the boot latch via Simon’s suggestion of a hole behind the number plate although in a slightly different place, see picture. This position enables one simple push of the screwdriver onto a latch plate which immediately opens the boot. This bypasses th...

Julian, thanks for quick reply regarding the issue and yes let’s make contact tomorrow thanks. Simon, I will try your suggestions tomorrow, regarding your offer of an original that’s very kind, if I may i’ll speak with sng and come back to you via pm. Geoff, hands off you’ve plenty of other work to ...

New locking boot cable hasn’t lasted a day! Now unable to open boot
Hi all I’m hoping someone can give a little bit of magic with opening an ots boot after cable pull failed within a day of fitting. Yesterday took what looks to be the original non locking boot pull cable out (57 years old!) and fitted an sng locking cable BD27158 into my 1962 ots. All went well with...

Hi Tom
I’m intrigued which photo/photos are you referring to. Are you sure the footwell illusion isn’t created by the exhaust pipes!

Re: Possible SU float level problem
Thanks Peter I think this is an oppotunity to take the carburettors off and get a complete understanding whilst going through the service components. I have also just remembered that this issue was worse on an occasion when braking slowly downhill fowards on a steep drive. Much appreciated John H

Re: Possible SU float level problem
Hi Peter thanks for info, this is another area where I"m learning. Will check throttle spindle glands/bushes/seals, and adjust mixture. Question please, regarding 2 breather holes on the carburettor mounting surface to manifold - are these the openings which vacuum system flows through? attempting t...

Re: Possible SU float level problem
Hi Steve The regulator was a recommendation by a tuning company Airey Tuning in Hampshire and admittingly hasn’t changed anything. I presume the thought was less pressure on valves when the float was reseating the needles. I’ve checked all 3 valves and they appear to function fine however it will be...

Re: Possible SU float level problem
Thanks Julian Have done that, fuel level in floats all ok and shut off clearance adjusted using 11mm pipe! There is a chance one of the 3 shut off valves are not perfectly closing under braking hence i put in the regulator, but its something deeper!

Possible SU float level problem
Hi Triple SU carbs on 4.2, under heavy breaking and particularly after releasing brake pedal pressure the engine revs drop very low/stall. Now initially thought fuel may have been coming through needle and seat valve in float chamber prematurely whilst float was returning to normal position, so put ...

Just googled mobile number and this advert came up, yet another car with no logbook or numbers, quote "don't email silly questions" again.
