Thanks John, that would explain it. Sadly I had to change the oil as last year a mechanic put Dexron III in instead of Dexron II, which I learnt is a big no-no for this gear box.
I guess if Dexron III was still hanging around in the torque converter, I haven't fully solved the issue!?

Re: Borg Warner model 12 gear 2 vibration
Going back to fluid level, which I've always checked using the rather long-winded published procedure, is there any possibility of false readings due to an air lock of some sort? I only say this as the amount of gear box oil replenshed after removing sump and changing the oil was perhaps less than e...

Re: Borg Warner model 12 gear 2 vibration
Thanks for the replies and sorry for late acknowledgement. Fluid level is fine as I just renewed it, cleaned everything, and added a conditioner; all done as my first step at tackling the issue, but it still persisted.
I’ll research what band adjustment involves!
Cheers, Rafa

Re: Borg Warner model 12 gear 2 vibration
Hi David, thanks for the reply. I’ve driven it selected in 1, no vibration through rev range, and then 2, with continued vibration at all rpms. I live in Granada, Andalusia, and no-one seems willing to touch classic auto gear boxes! I’ve been told the ‘band’ might need adjusting but I have no knowle...

Borg Warner model 12 gear 2 vibration
1971 US spec. FHC Vibration felt through car and steering wheel when in gear 2. Gears 1 and 3 drive smoothly. I have had the car for 6 years, and it’s a recent phenomenon. A removal of the sump cover, clean up, and new Dextron 2 added, plus an auto gear box additive, has not made any difference. Man...

Where to find rear door vent cover part BD38987?
I'm in the process of a re-spray and unable to find a replacement vent cover for the rear door air extractor. It's the black plastic scoop on the inside and the one I have is broken. The 3 main dealers: Robey's, Manners' and SNG do not have it and I wondered if anyone could give me a steer in the ri...

Thanks Mark, the negative terminal one is all cleaned up now (problem still exists) but I've failed to locate the other earth lead. Is it only accessible underneath? I have no ramp and the front of the car is jacked up but access is still tricky... It occurred to me it might be missing but then it s...

Clicking solenoid starter problem
With a battery that seems healthy with a CTEK conditioning device connected for a couple of weeks since last start, the engine turns over on start but only for 2 secs before the loud clicking of the solenoid occurs. A mechanic friend told me the battery is most likely at fault but the same symptoms ...

Thanks Mark, no known bumps as far as I'm concerned. Underneath is in very good condition, and almost all of the frame has corrosion free paintwork in good nic. I guess therefore some internal corrosion has happened. Everything seems and looks sound to me but I'm no expert and have to take the advic...

Bonnet support frame brazing in situ?
Sadly just failed an MOT due cracking in brazing of tubes at the point they connect with their brackets on bonnet support frame (Part no. C32395). Hopefully the photos illustrate this. My question is has anyone experience of re-brazing here with everything else (bonnet, radiator, pipes and hoses) in...

Thanks guys, here's my feedback: tried without success for a while but eventually found Stan from GB classic trim who supplies the neoprene with the hard wearing surface on one side, and cut to size. I misused the term Hardura mats which they are not, it's just that they appear in the parts catalogu...

Where to obtain Hardura mats for boot area?
I'm looking to replace the black 8mm thick foam, vinyl backed Hardura mats that are situated underneath and around the spare wheel, under and over the fuel tanks, and under the forward floor panel. There are 12 bits in all and appear on page 33.48 of the S3 2+2 FHC parts manual. So far in my hunt I ...
