RE. 45DM6 Ignition distributor swap

No replies to my previous post. So I will ask in a different way . Could someone who has access to a XJ6 S3 tell me how the amplifier AB14 is connected to the coil eg : where go the white with black trace wire and the plain white wire ? Is an ignition ballast present ? Maybe Mister Peter Crespin can...

Electronic Ignition 45D6

Hi all, I want to install an electronic distributor 45D6 and amplifier from a XJ6 S3 to replace my 22D6 on my 3.8. I bought the kit from SNG. Now I'm a bit confused. According to the spare parts manual of the E type I don't need a ballast resistor, but there is one on the car !? On the XJ6, the manu...

Harry,

Did you checked on XKE Data ?
Just by comparing serial numbers close to your own, you should find a date.

Good luck !

I have seen early 64 with full alloy ( dash, console ) and some with the cubby box ( like late 64 ) trimmed same colour than the seats on alloy console .

It seems that the records and reality can be quite appart.
Not the first time , though .

Adam,

I use Penrite Hpr 40 - 25w70 because of the heat here in AUS, but after talking with the state rep, I will change to Penrite Classic light 20w60 for the added zinc.
Not as easy to find than the HPR.

Cheers.

Hi Nick, Following what Christopher said, here are some pictures of what I have done on my car. I was chasing some pre ignition problem, and found the timing mark on the recond crankshaft damper out of place. The tool I used to check piston at TDC http://i604.photobucket.com/albums/tt127/Echezeaux/T...

This remind me of an Alfa Romeo GTA 4 cyl with dual spark plugs, after seeing the monstruous dome of the pistons, you clearly understand the need for two S/plugs... or more !!

Steve is right about it, Jaguar did this kind of exercise as well as Samir Klat in a way to improve an " average" combustion due to hight dome piston.
In USA some tuners are doing the same these days for motor with a C/R of 10/1 or more.

Hi Paul,

By chance, do you have any picture of your problems, as my S1 is fitted with the Coolkat fan as well.
And I do not really understand how this happened to you. So you got me worried !!
Are you running the fan really close to the radiator ?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Yes me too, no reply to my Email either !
Maybe I should talk to SNG since I bought the shocks from them.
And by looking at quite a few other professional or not E-type restorations on the web, the problem seems to be wide spread, whatever the brand of shocks .

Bonjour Paul, I do not know where you live in Paris, but I know someone in Pourrain 89, Dpt L'Yonne, Rene Sontrop, Jaguar specialist and really well known in historic racing. I visited him recently during some time off in France, nice man, clean workshop packed with cars, and he owns a nice semi-lig...
