Hi Some thoughts and ideas... If you didn't take the distributor off that doesn't mean it's not 180 out as it may have been that way when you got it. Putting the leads on correctly would then cause a problem if they had previously been configured to suit. You say you have a strong spark - is it blue...

Hi, Ryan. The small outlets in your first picture are small diaphragm valves that I believe are meant to stop popping on the overrun. I've used a hose from each carb to a tee, with a longer length running between the carbs on bank A and B. Then I have cut into that hose, inserted another tee and joi...

I had a crawl around and took some pictures all around the crank pulley.

Seems that the engine number matches the plate at least! The car is unrestored and I don't think the engine has ever been out.

Thanks!

Sorry - should explain - previous owner converted the car to LHD and it does not have a mirror there! So looking to fit one to that side for ease of use!

Thanks,

Hi. Does anybody know the TEX part for the stalk for the earlier mirror? Bought one that looked the same (I think it was for a triumph stag) but it has the wrong angle for the mirror head - not enough adjustment in the stem to head to account for the 'wrong' angle of the stem for our cars. Thanks, C...

Hi. Going through a very similar process myself. I've just rebuilt the carbs completely. Set them up on the bench and expected a few tweaks would have the car running great. Not quite that simple, as it turns out! Carbs completely rebuilt using the zenith kit, along with new jets and manual spec nee...

I found a great diagram for the carb bypass valve plumbing in the emission control section of the parts manual.

Second carb now cleaned up waiting on rebuild kit to arrive.

Hi. I managed to get some more pictures earlier tonight. Also stripped one carb and cleaned it up - waiting on the rebuild kit to arrive. http://1drv.ms/1gBipJD I've added captions that hopefully help explain what each pic is. Anybody got any ideas what the carb bypass valves are plumbed to, if anyt...

Thank you for the reply. So far I have only removed the left hand pair. The right hand pair (as viewed from drivers seat) is still on the car so I'll take some pics of that tonight. Now that I've half stripped one of the carbs and built it back up a couple of times I can identify some of the parts b...

Hi. Started the carb stripdown this evening to have a look. Everything looks pretty good on the one I've done so far but with the odd bit of contamination or soot here and there. Is there any way of telling if the jet and needle are good or have been replaced previously? Doesn't seem to be any appar...

Started work on it at last! Carb and timing questions...

Hi! After a winter of rebuilding my land rover engine and then re-earning some brownie points with wife and family, the e-type is beginning to receive some long overdue attention! I bought it last autumn and it has been pretty much stuck in a garage since with an occasional start up. There's some pi...

A pictorial guide can be found here:

http://www.msvcr.com/e107_plug_ins/cont ... ?content.8

and diaphragms are available from barratts or eBay or various other places. Just search for 'stromberg 175 diaphragm'.

Hi.

If you had a backfire that was big enough to blow the piping off it may be a wise precaution to check the stromberg diaphragms.

Cheers

Hi. Mine was plumbed up badly when I got it so I did a bit of research on what goes where. As far as I could gather, for UK spec the pipes run as follows: The rear inlet manifolds tapping is plumbed to thermostatic valve on air cleaner. The other port on the thermostatic valve is plumbed to the flap...

Hi. A bit more research suggests that the vacuum pipe from the flapper valve on the air intake trumpet should run from/ to a thermostatic valve mounted on the air filter box. The pipe from the inlet manifold runs to this thermostatic valve. When the car is cold the inlet vacuum should keep the flapp...

Thanks for the welcomes! Some more info for you. The car is a UK car. From what I can tell there's no emission control apart from the air intake flapper valves. It was registered May 1973. I think from memory the build date was February or March 1973 but I'll need to check that again. It's a later c...

Inlet manifold vacuum connections

Hi. My first e-type arrived this morning! It's an unrestored 1973 2+2 in red. Not perfect but seems like an honest enough car. Very excited anyway - but a few issues with running. I've checked all plugs, leads, rotor arm and distributor cap and apart form having one plug that's different (strangely ...
