The stampings on the block gasket surface face are the piston bore grades. If pistons are original, the same stamping should be found on the piston. Simple method of maintaining correct bore clearance.

Very much so. I remember noting four of the pistons still had the penciled engine number: R 5126 seen during an engine tear down in 1973. I wonder if they are still there now......

I had a stencil laser cut out of flexable material by a local sign / trophy shop. They downloaded the example from this thread & cut it out in a few minutes.
