Re: Timing? Carburation?

The distributor manual says; “ Locate the vacuum hose that was previously attached to the vacuum advance canister. This hose should originate at a ported vacuum source. Some applications have vacuum advance hoses attached to a manifold vacuum source, due to the performance advance curve, we recommen...

Re: Timing? Carburation?

Can’t be sure. I know that’s not very helpful, but it’s been a long time. It’s not been driven much in the past decade-plus.

Timing? Carburation?

Here’s the problem. Starts fine. Carbs seem really well-tuned. I recently stripped and serviced them. Shiny! But when driving, all is well until I try to accelerate firmly, at which point, upon climbing much over 1,500, the car lurches, judders and bunny hops. Now this may be really obvious to many,...

Re: Door Adjustment - In and Out

Actually, scratch that. Did more ‘general E-Type kind of fiddling*’, and now it works! I guess the ‘general E-Type kind of fiddling’ got me the 2mm or so I needed and now it sucks in nice and tight. *stand looking at it, baffled and muttering. Think hard about the special kind of tool needed. Go and...

Re: Door Adjustment - In and Out

Did as suggested and it seems the sliding plate inside the car body to which the strike plate is attached is as far inboard as whatever it slides up to against will allow. So do I embark upon the quest to get inside the car and adjust how far inwards the sliding plate moves, or is there another, sim...

Door Adjustment - In and Out

Hi Can someone please explain how to get a door to close ‘tighter’? My driver door doesn’t align with the body panel at the trailing edge but the hinges are correctly positioned. I’ve read around it and advice seems to be to loosen the big screws holding the strike plate and move it inwards but I do...

Tappet Guide Hold Downs?

Apologies if this has been amply discussed before - tricky topic to search on. Watching some videos and noticed the guys at the Classic Engine Workshop in Worcester highly recommend adding tappet guide tie-downs (or ‘hold downs at Moss) to avoid potential catastrophe in the event of a guide working ...

Re: Coolant Recomendations?

If you are using premix, good to go. If using "full strength" and want to cut it to 50/50 then use the good water... Sorry - what I mean is, when flushing and cleaning, do I need to use distilled for that, or just a hose pipe and tap water. I totally get that the 50:50 mix that ends up in the syste...

Re: Coolant Recomendations?

Right; all set for a flush, clean, flush and refill.

Last question (promise); when cleaning, do I need to use distilled water, or is that only necessary for mixing with coolant prior to filling?

Re: Coolant Recomendations?

So research suggests I should very much move away from green (silicate) stuff to orange, but that the system needs a really good flush beforehand. Any specific tips or tricks I should be aware of?

Thanks again.

Coolant Recomendations?

I would imagine this may have been asked before, but I searched and couldn't find it.

Can anyone please recommend a good coolant? I'm not going waterless...

Thanks,

Dom

Re: Lucas washer bottle connector picture please

I'd very much also like to buy one or two of these, please! Forums are awesome! Many thanks, Rich! Steve, you reminded me that I was working on 3D printing this part a little while ago - I like to copy appropriate plastic components on my car, when I get the opportunity. I can finish working on this...

Andrew - *many* thanks for taking the time to provide such a helpful and informative answer. It’s a relief to know I don’t need to replace the whole unit.

Should I replace these calipers?

I noticed the rubber boot seals on my front brakes were perished so went ahead with replacing them only to find the cylinders wouldn’t budge. Took the air line to them and one of them came out with a loud ‘crack’ and in so doing bent the rim flange. Now it’s out you can see below it was quite badly ...

Re: Lucas washer bottle connector picture please

Not really, Darryl. I mean the entire connector, that attaches to the outside of the bottle. The plastic/rubber cover perished on mine and now I have exposed brushes that I've wrapped in insulating tape. Perfectly functional but a bit ugly and not going to help me win any shows.

Lucas washer bottle connector picture please

Could someone please be kind and send me a close-up snap of the electrical connector for the washer bottle pictured? Can’t find anyone that doesn’t sell them as part of the whole unit, which is unnecessary. I’m hoping to find something suitable in an electronics store or online. Thanks https://i.pos...
