Re: Exhaust cam starved of oil
Hi, thanks for quick reply. From what I can see the banjo/bolt sit below the end of the cam? Wondered how oil gets into cam from this position?

Exhaust cam starved of oil
Hi, just rebuilt my series 2 engine. Car started fine, oil pressure at 1500 rpm is reading 40+, when I checked inlet cam valley built up oil quickly yet exhaust cam no evidence of oil flow. Cracked open banjo fitting on exhaust cam and it started leaking oil. How does oil get from banjo fitting to c...

Re: Series 2 water return pipe
Thanks Geoff, my car is a USA import. Hence the t piece. Your dimensions helped though ad I can make one out of plumbing fittings. Thanks again Steve

Re: Ignition light Issue
Jerome, sorry only just seen your question! No there is no connection to relay. This is literally a 2 wire device, ground and supply. As I mentioned it detects alternator working ( therefore assumes battery us charging) by detecting ac to dc ripple on voltage.

Series 2 water return pipe
I am missing the water return pipe sited under the inlet manifold, running from the bulkhead to water pump with a T connection near the water pump which connects to manifold. I cannot source one from usual suppliers ? Does anyone have dimensions so I can try and make one?

Re: Powerlite starter motors
They should already have all the relevant information. At my request I sent them both their RAC303 and my original Lucas starter. Thus gave them the opportunity to measure both units on the bench. I assumed they did this and came back to me and told me to remove the spacer plate. For me the (best ca...

Re: Powerlite starter motors
Gerry, in my case the RAC303 was only just engaging and after a short period of time shaved the face of the flywheel ring and as a result no engagement was possible, all with spacer fitted. If you hear grinding/ unusual noises at start up then I would refit with spacer removed. I took the decision t...

Re: Powerlite starter motors
Steve, I also had extensive discussions with Powerlite over last 2 weeks and they were adamant that the spacer WAS required, they said if it was on the car originally then it was needed for their unit. It didn’t make sense after taking measurements. I read your comments on forums etc re the spacer a...

Powerlite starter motors
Decided to upgrade to a Powerlite starter RAC303 for my e type. Starting was accompanied by occasional grinding of metal and general horrible noises. Got worst until eventually starter just spun with no engagement. Removing starter found damage to face of ring teeth. It seemed the Powerlite motor wa...

Re: Ignition light Issue
The 3AW unit was a fragile component. I replaced the ignition light with an electronic version. This is used on motorbikes and is a led which has a built in voltage ripple detector ie it detects the ac to dc conversion performed by the alternator. Normally the light is powered on. When the car start...

Starter motor
Am in the process of restoring my series 2 roadster. Decided to upgrade starter with Powerlite high torque starter RAC303. In hindsight i shouldn’t have bothered. Due to problems with Powerlite unit I stuck with a refurbed Lucas starter, it may be more sluggish and heavier but it does the job withou...

Re: SC Parts come up trumps!.......after waiting over 4 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Used them for the first time this year… ordered gearbox parts which they said were in stock ( no one else had them in stock). When the parts arrived the crucial part was ‘no longer available’. Cost me 50% extra over usual suppliers and still, did not get the part I required. Will not be using them ag...

Re: brake bleeding advice
Hi, had a leaking brake caliper ( outside caliper drivers side RHD). Was able to loosen bleed nipple (7/16 ratchet spanner) before verifying the calliper itself was leaking. Removing front shock absorber then allowed me to remove the caliper easily and replace with new one. Girling calipers, were fi...

Re: SC Parts come up trumps!.......after waiting over 4 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My very recent experience was not good with SC parts. Ordered some gearbox selector parts, unavailable from usual E type suppliers. They told me no problem, al in stock, delivery tomorrow blah blah. Delivery duly came following day but missing the vital part which usual suppliers were also unable to...

Bill, that’s very helpful. I can see the ends are concave on mine but may well be wear I am seeing.
Do you have the diameter of the pin?

Re: Gearbox selector rod interlock
Cheers Steve. I think Bills suggestion is a great one. Knowing the dimensions would give me a good shot at making one. My part is badly worn. It does look like there are indents ie concave ends to the pin (assume to seat the ball bearings either end of the pin. It’s either that or the ends are also ...
