Re: Engine intermittantly cutting out.
I helped a friend with this issue. It turned out to be a loose nut on the 12 volt connection bolt under the heater box. The nut was loose allowing some rust to build up between the connections resulting in the engine dying and then coming back again. We cleaned up all the contacts and then tightened...

Re: Varnish for series 1 steering wheel
Just two points- First I always use a satin finish on wood. When you look at a gloss finish you see yourself. When you look at a satin finish you see the wood grain. Second, I use a gel urethane that I wipe on and then wipe off. I do this six times to build up a nice finish.

Re: Painting the bonnet inside and engine frames - process?
I noticed that when i had my bonnet apart that the areas above the long air intakes were rusted. I also noticed that one of my friend's car cane back with a beautiful paint job but really nothing on top of the air intakes. When I painted my bonnet I painted the air intakes off the car, inside and out.

One thing not to over look is getting some sealant inside the sub frames. They all rust from the inside, so while they are off the car do something to protect them.

Re: Is my bonnet missing a bit??
The xks catalog shows an "attaching clip, bonnet vent" as BD-17290. This is for a Series III and attaches to the pins that come out the back of the chrome bonnet vent. I've never used them since i screw the vent in place from the two flanges on the bottom. I didn't see a part number for the clips th...

Re: Is my bonnet missing a bit??
His bonnet is different. You have the same one as I do. You need to get a clip on screw backing plate (not sure of the name)

Try the master cylinder
I have wilwood front brakes and resleeved rear brakes and couldn't get any fluid out the back. When I pulled the rear cage to fix the rear brakes I noticed that after 30 years my rotors were in perfect condition, also known as no rear brakes for 30 years. I sent the master to be resleeved and rebuil...

Relocating fuse box
I put a new marine fuse box where the voltage regulator used to be in order to keep some of the high current out of the dash. Electric power steering, heavy duty fan motor, AC fan blower.
