Handbrake mechanism modification

Could someone direct me to the thread relating to the modification to the handbrake mechanism please?

The one that costs not a lot but involves some cutting and welding of a tube. As opposed to the mod one can buy from SNGB, which is currently out of stock.

Thanks.

Thank you for all suggestions. Problem now solved. Thanks Peter and Marek for all your diagrams and photos. It appears that the top of the dipstick tube sits approx 2" lower or further into the engine bay than it should do. Thereby allowing the dipstick to protrude into the sump further than it shou...

Engine Oil Dipstick Level

Have recently replaced oil and filter and put in 10.7 lts engine oil as per workshop manual. The oil level appears to be way above any of the markings on the dipstick. It was like this before I changed the oil. Do I have the correct dipstick? Thanks. http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u404/marcusho...

I have some interesting results regarding the issue of high cabin temperature in my V12 2+2. The problem I had and still have, is the temperature difference between the left and right side of the transmission tunnel inside the car in the vicinity of where one would rest one's inside leg. So on my RH...

Thank you Peter, Steve and Angus. Driver's side is right hand side. Yes both fans turning in correct direction. All heat shields present and correct as are blanking plates, grommets etc. Purchased laser thermometer, so will be able to investigate possible temp difference between left and right side ...

Thanks for the advice Marek. Yes you are correct in that I don't have a heater matrix. So this cannot be the cause. It's possible that the right side is running leaner as I have been fiddling with the mixtures and am not convinced they are correctly set yet. However, could this really make such a bi...

High cabin temperature

Why would it be that the drivers side transmission tunnel inside the car gets so much hotter than the passenger side? I have recently fitted the 2 missing exhaust heat shields underneath the car. The ones in the middle, expecting a big difference in the cabin temperature. This has certainly helped i...

I checked the weights some 8/9 months ago and freed them up so I don't think this is where the issue is. But appreciate your thoughts anyway. Thanks.
A drive out in the motor yesterday was without any problems, so I have an intermittent problem.

OK Steve. Fuel pump completely rebuilt with new points and diaphragms etc some 6 months ago, so I've ruled this out.

Malcolm. A possibility I guess, as I have been fiddling with the mixtures. Will revisit this area. Thanks.

V12 uneven acceleration

Can anyone shed light on this small issue I have just started to experience please? Under relatively hard acceleration, the engine will jerk and hesitate, with the occasional popping noise from the exhaust. It'll still accelerate, but quite hesitantly. Under gentle or more normal acceleration the en...

Shocking!

Perhaps, when the investigation into this has concluded, the cause of the fire could be made known?

Hi Marek, Thank you for your advice. When the IRS was out I did have a good look at the UJs and half shafts etc , and I've also checked the prop shaft bolts, as this was my initial thought. It only knocks after approx 20 mins of driving/ braking, which I guess points to the disc/s warming up and the...

I have no idea when the discs were last attended to. They weren't in tip top condition when I had the IRS off the car, but certainly good IMO for a couple of seasons driving. Having said this, I presume that a disc would only have to be fractionally distorted to cause knocking, and perhaps this woul...

Pretty sure the caliper bolts are tight, as I had the IRS out a few months ago and I would have checked this. However......just a double check won't hurt.

Perhaps I will have to resort to sticky stuff on the pads.

Thanks for your advice.

Brake knocking noise

Has anyone experienced this issue that I believe is associated with the rear brakes on my S3? After I have been driving the car for approx 20 mins or so, I get a distinct knocking sound from the rear of the car when I brake gently. It doesn't occur when I initially take the car out and brake. The kn...

Steve/Ian. I've had a look at the Repair Operation Manual section 64.15 rear hub and carrier assembly. I presume if I use this as a guide and at the appropriate point substitute the new hub? However, when the manual refers to shims and bearing end float and a rear hub backlash gauge, I have to say i...
