Re: Has Anyone Fitted the Tremac 5 Speed ?
Hi, I fitted a Tremec to my Series 1 4.2 2+2. Sourced from "The Driven Man" in USA, Kit included bellhousing and propshaft. Comments:- 1.0 It has the 0.8:1 5th gear ratio. I think 0.6:1 would be a bit much. I installed a 3.17:1 differential ratio. 2.0 Has now done about 7,000 miles in 7 months (dail...

Hi all..... Like Peter, I have used these devices since their introduction in the Sixties, on everything from single-cylinder motorcycles to the Jaguar XK engine, and just about everything in between. On the E-Type I use three. And, like Christopher, I end up moving from a blue flame indication to a...

Hi All, I have fitted a Mann+Hummell Provent 200 Catchcan/Separator Kit to my Series 1 4.2 2+2. These are around the AUD$300:00 mark down here, and provide what I consider to be a most satisfactory solution to the venting problem. The unit separates the oil from the vent fumes, and incorporates a (p...

Hi Malcolm, Wow......!!!! Nothing more to say, really.......Can I fly you down here to Oz to do mine....Any charge would not be unreasonable. Hi John, Not a Series 1.5, but a Series 1 with a 1,5 bonnet (!!)........Just completed after 5/6 years of blood/sweat/'n tears.....I also have a heap of miscellaneous E-Type bits (new and used.....) lying around. See pics in "General" section, also attached (amateur paint efforts......!!) https://s9...

Re: Crankshaft rear oil seal sizing
Hi Colin, Brief additional comment........The original genuine Jaguar seals were manufactured to a precise length, and that was the reason for the "no cut" admonition in the Manual. Some of the aftermarket seals are much longer than necessary, and, of consequence, have to be cut........ Best regards...

Re: Crankshaft rear oil seal sizing
Hi again Colin, Your proposed procedure is generally OK, with a couple of comments. I don't soak the seal in oil prior to use. When tight (on new seal installation), there is a chance of pick-up and the seal can spin in the housing. All of the Jaguar Workshop Manuals I have are pretty vague on the s...

Hi Colin, Noted your reference to my previous input on this topic back in May, 2014. I have no idea why you couldn't get me on PM since, I am still here, in the largest lump of Oz, (WA)...Where on earth is Canberra, by the way....?? Anyway, by now you'd have realized that my post at that time relate...

Hi All, Many thanks for your kind comments......much appreciated. Apologies for the inordinate delay in my response, but have been up in Indonesia for a couple of weeks. Hi all (again)..... I'm unsure as to why the pics that I (surprise surprise....successfully....) attached, came out in duplicate.... another one back on the road......
Hi all, After six long years of sweat 'n tears, another E saved from the scrap bin and on the road again......Perhaps only an 'umble old Series 1 2+2, but idolized by my grand-daughter, ( an 8-year-old devotee of the marque.....) Bought as an engineless (is that a real adjective......?) basket case,...

Re: Bushes instead of bearings for rear wishbone and hub carrier
Hi All, OK, so here we go with my tuppence worth......The application of needle roller bearings in an application like this is not good practice, the limited angular arc of motion will ensure extreme brinelling in time, over that arc. All of these that I have dismantled have displayed this. I replac...

Hi Julian, The latest SNG Barratt catalogue for all 6-cylinder E-Types contains detailed sections for Series 1, Series 1.5 (where applicable....) and Series 2. Hugo, Clarification herewith. I wrote a long dissertation on this subject some years back, on this Forum... 1.0 The bolt heads you describe, with the machined relief under the head, are in fact in conformance with relevant BS and AS Standards for fasteners on a structure of this nature. On the E-Typ...
