Re: New Member
Yes, welcome! Still plenty of E5 around at the moment which is fine - as said, get the higher octane stuff if you can. The engines are very tolerant though. Touting France, I've often had to fill up with really low octane stuff and it's fine. Definitely no lead additive needed; the standard valve se...

Re: Oil pressure, one more round
Almost certainly the sender, not the guage. So if you replace the sender, the guage face stays, it's just that it works now!

Re: Oil pressure, one more round
Not sure I understand the reluctance to fix the guage? If you don't want the hassle of fitting a mechanical guage, just get a new sender. I've had a few. Only £93 from SNG Barratt. (3.8 or 4.2) Easy to fit.
I just went mechanical because they're more reliable.
I'm sure I'm just missing something

Re: Oil pressure, one more round
Your oil pressure is fine, but I still wouldn't live with a bad sender. What if your oil pressure really did drop drastically one day, while driving, and you didn't notice it because you can't believe the bad sender? I say that from experience. The filter head came loose on my car on the motorway, a...

Re: Oil pressure, one more round
The standard recommendation which I always use is 20/50 mineral oil.
BTW, even if you know your guage is faulty, I wouldn't "live with it" as you suggest. You never know if one day it might REALLY be that low! You either need a new sender (if that is the problem) or a mechanical replacement.

Re: Oil pressure, one more round
I went the capillary guage route, got mine from SNG. Extremely reliable, whereas if i relied on the old sender I'd think the engine was knackered. My SNG one was tested against the workshop professional one, and readings were identical. At VERY hot, the minimum oil pressure I get 25lbs, at normal ho...

Re: Seeking Advice on Engine Troubleshooting
Are we sure this isn't spam? Most owners would know if their car was fuel injected or not, and if it was modified with fuel injection they'd say so surely.
Re: No spark
Excellent detailed advice above from Andrew! The very last bit about changing everything a bit at a time if all else fails is key to me. I had a problem where everything seemed to be ok, so went about changing everything one piece at a time until the problem went. Not that expensive! And when you fi...

I agree with Geoff about CMES. Excellent place. Worth talking to Paul there even if you are doing the work yourself, or even just taking a look! Don't be put off by the shabby exterior

Re: Hi new member here
I can only say my starter has been spinning my engine over succesfully for nearly 55years. It doesn't really matter if it uses more juice - that's quickly replenished by my equally old alternator.

Re: Brake fluid
Where is your clutch fluid reservoir bottle? On my car, and I believe many others, the bottle is against the bulkhead on the drivers side. I had fluid leaking onto the mat near the brake pedal, and it was a split in the bottle. Where the clamp goes round the bottle, it can split but not be obvious. ...

Re: Gunsons Colortune
I used the colortune on my 2+2 I set it up exactly as told in the instructions, and it ran terribly. Mainly I think because the E likes to run richer than other engines so if you set it to all blue flames it's too lean. I did it again, but set it up so each cylinder was showing some (and the same am...
