4.2 knocking noise

Starting doing some test runs. The 4.2 engine runs and accelerates very smoothly (originally from a 84 XJ6)with a Mangoletsi injection system. Unfortunately I have this knocking noise coming from the front of the engine, which is rather annoying. Oil pressure is +/- 20 psi at hot idle. I have made a...

Ammeter - Not charging?

I have managed to solve my transmission issues and so could drive it for the first time on the road (just a couple of hundred meters, since not yet registered) Got back into the garage and noticed that the ammeter was on "C" https://i.postimg.cc/ZK55f4m7/ammeter-0.jpg Turned the engine off. => I run...

Re: Problems fitting courtesy light switches

Had the same problem on my 2+2 door hinges. Last year, ordered both sides, the right hand side arrived with the "incorporated bolt" and all was fine. Door shuts beautifully. The left side was a version with the hole. Got feedback from SNG that they no longer will supply the one with the bolt. Had to...

Re: Varnish for series 1 steering wheel

Looked on the OSMO UK website, but I can't figure out which one to buy. Could you indicate the specific oil you ordered and, if applicable, in which colour?
Cheers

Electrical - interior light - fan

As mentioned in another post, I flushed the oil on my automatic gearbox today (with still some problems left) and found out that there are some electrical issues. :banghead: In the past all of the following worked : Fan, horn, gauge lights and interior light. Checked fuses and connections and all we...

Re: Automatic gearbox sludge

Ok, update. Flushed the oil by detaching the hose going to the radiator. Used 14 litres of oil, could have done with less, but continued until very clean oil came out again. Have the car on car stands so shifted throught the gears as recommended. Checked fluid level when engine was hot, and all seem...

Automatic gearbox sludge

I installed the engine and automatic gearbox from an XJ6 S3. Drove the car a first time for 20 metres (in and out of the garage) before changing the gearbox oil. No problem. Changed the gearbox oil and filter (cleaning the sump, removed oil was a bit dark, no sludge) and when I tried to drive the ca...

Re: Steering Wheel Locknut does not clamp

Indeed item 9. Will have to check also the thread of where it screws onto. Had the adjuster shot blasted and powder coated, and some other bits of the column, so it might just be an assembly glitch. Something for next weekend. Cheers

Re: Steering Wheel Locknut does not clamp

I cleaned the thread of the adjuster, but I think you're right in suggesting that it doesn't screw fully down. Even though I fasten it so much the wheels are turning... Guess I'll have another look at the circlip and where it sits. Thanks.

Re: Steering Wheel Locknut does not clamp

I disassembled the "affected" parts. If I push down, by hand, the collet C8671, the shaft is difficult (almost impossible) to move with my other hand. When I put the collet back into the black adjuster, and fasten it to a point that the wheels start to turn, but the shaft is just loose. The adjuster...

Re: Steering Wheel Locknut does not clamp

Need to re-open this post. Still no luck, the steering wheel locknut, after following the fitting instructions mentioned above still does not "lock". Having seen the wheeler dealer episode on the Jaguar XJ6 coupe where Ed China has to replace the collet in order to fix the same problem, I was wonder...

Re: Help wanted - Problem with registering in Italy - Mangoletsi Jenvey modifications

The thought of changing everything over just for the registration is still with me. @Peter, the problem with registering via the UK is that I would have English plates on my car (as in obviuosly) and would have only 1 year to switch to the licence plates of the country of my residence aka Italy. Ins...

Help wanted - Problem with registering in Italy - Mangoletsi Jenvey modifications

I require some help with registering my 1966 primrose yellow, LHD, 2+2 series 1 E type, imported from the US, in Italy. The standard procedure is more or less as follows. 1. Register with a Classic Car club. 2. Apply via the club for membership of the “Asifed” = Italian Classic Car association. 3. S...
