Re: Export Cars

I apply the "find my car" in a vast sea of cars every time I go to the airport, stadium, mall, theater, etc. While shipping a car in the groups would result in an unload into a large car park, then a sort of the first you walk to into geographical location groups (South East, North West), then upon ...

Re: Fuel

Stromberg carbs are fuel mixture tuneable except for a few years around 1969/70. The sedans can be used for parts to change your carb bits to make them tunable. Insert the two piece adjustment tool comprised of a tube that just fits into the top of the carb where the dampner drops in. The tube is th...

Re: Zeus single pot. Pistons not retracting

I assume from your first post you are using the ZEUS FRONT STAINLESS STEEL REPLACEMENT CALLIPER 2 1/8th Part Number: Z2125 which will use the factory type brake pads. Yes when the caliper piston retracts the disc knocks the pads back on "modern" brakes however the Dunlop pistons with return springs ...

Re: Assembling thr hub to the half shaft

Hi Mitch, The E-Type IRS is basically the same as a sedan or XJS from 1960 to 1997 with slight changes however the size of the components have remained the same. Split pins to hold the nuts on the axle have moved to nylock nuts and the torque has gone above 200 ft lbs. I strive for about 200 ft lbs ...

Re: Fitting Gearstick shifter

Glenn, You do not have a Thackery washer. The first photo shows a split lock washer. You cannot use the split lick washer as it will tear into the fiber washer. The Thackery washer takes up the slack and provides some spring when going into gear ( reverse) easing pain in the hand. The cotter pin loc...

Re: Zeus single pot. Pistons not retracting

You have done the testing I would to determine what components are causing the problem. Time to call the vendor or manufacturer. Perhaps the piston seal (square cut o-ring) is installed backwards. Pad swept area is different from piston diameter. Piston diameter determines the pressure and pad swept...

Re: Diff oil change & flush???

If you drove the car recently, even only a mile, I would not flush because of removing proper oil from the limited slip clutch packs and coating the clutches with a non- lubricant. Just fill with the correct fluid including limited slip additive.

Re: DISAPPEARING BRAKE PEDAL

My first thought is high moisture content brake fluid boiling at a much lower temperature than fresh fluid. This creates a gas area displacing the fluid. Gas compresses and fluid doesn’t. After cooling off from a short drive without using the brakes the gas condenses back to fluid and brakes work no...

Re: Sovy Failure

Moving treasure in the garage this weekend I was reminded of plastic gallon oil containers that leaked after sitting for a year or so from a split at the seam along the bottom because I found a gallon antifreeze container leaking and a quart brake fluid container leaking. All from the seam or some c...

Concours with rain today. Judging under cover and I managed to get photos of 6 car rear suspension lower arms. One photo shown as all are about the same. Note the cars were without driver or other items like luggage or passenger and I did not check fuel level. I extended the photo horizontal and axl...

Re: S3 V12 Stromberg/Dizzy vacuum pipes

The distributor air inlet filter was a push on small fuel filter connected to the distributor with vacuum hose, no clamps used. The filter was loose in the v of the engine.

Re: Rear Suspension, ride height

Interesting discussion. All jaguars with IRS like the E-Type show drawings with the axles horizontal which seems correct as I remember all the cars I worked on. Most of the cars were driven with light loads of one driver and 1/2 tank of fuel on average. A couple of things to add to the computations ...

Well Simon beat me to it! However I have another idea if you can wait a bit. This weekend I can pull out my '61 windows and make a trace of each. It will be interesting to see how they match left to right. I will send the tracing to you and you can check them against your zinc metal templates and gi...
