Re: Inaccurate oil dipstick reading
Hi and welcome to the forum. You will have seen information already about the dipstick and the associated felt seal (C21251) but a good start point is to ensure you have the correct amount of oil in the sump to begin with and see where this sits on your dipstick. https://i.postimg.cc/qRB2hgxx/IMG-06...

Re: Electrical fault - S1 doesn't even try to start
Phil, I would firstly ensure you've a fully charged battery. Then, I would bypass the cutoff switch by bridging across it. Try to start on button again. If it remains lifeless and no click from starter I'd suspect starter or solenoid initially. You can tap the starter solenoid whilst (getting assist...

Re: Early 4.2 S1 RHD - External Vacuum Pipe Routing
Hi Phil, So close. I think if you put the flexi hoses on first you may well have the end result you require :fingerscrossed: Small lengths of flex are tricky to get in place in and around the end of the T piece but with engine out you shouldn’t lose too much skin. The bulkhead brackets sit flat with...

Re: Early 4.2 S1 RHD - External Vacuum Pipe Routing
That’s good news Phil. With reference to the ‘T’ junction, near end of metal pipe run. Mine is 9” (23cm) approx. from bulkhead. The T piece is quite close to the Clutch MC (and steering shaft output) but has a small length flexi hose attached that goes to white plastic reaction valve connector. Spac...

Re: Early 4.2 S1 RHD - External Vacuum Pipe Routing
Hi Phil, Just checked my car; The two pipes that come across the bulkhead are together all the way across and as per my previous photos. On my RHD, when they part on drivers side, one continues across and below the wiper motor before a 90° bend takes it down to the T piece and one way valve that the...

Re: Timing? Carburation?
I would try a new set of NGK spark plugs (can present the same as you describe if plugs are breaking down) and a decent Red rotor arm: https://www.distributordoctor.com/red-rotor-arms.html Then a new set of HT leads, particularly if it’s not been run for some time. https://www.sngbarratt.com/English...

Try this Stuart, https://forums.jag-lovers.com/t/how-to-make-the-boot-floor-flat/410774/15 You may well have a slight gap as each end of the folding board has a striker pin and corresponding spring locking/locating clip. These stop the board bouncing when folded flat. No. 13 here: https://i.postimg....

Re: Series 1 4.2 Stereo Speakers
Previously I had the Visaton speakers fitted, (thread #4 in link below), but they had extended mounting rings on to reach the wider mounting points.

Re: Series 1 4.2 Stereo Speakers
Diameter or diagonal across the full speaker, Andrew. As you will note from the picture above, there’s plenty of flat mounting ‘lip’ to open up slightly for the four console studs and corresponding nuts to hold onto. Also doesn’t damage the all important speaker membrane. My console is original 1965...

Re: Series 1 4.2 Stereo Speakers
Hi Andrew, I’ve recently changed over to Focal speakers after some deliberation over correct fitment. I did a lot of homework, particularly as console space is tight with original Blaupunkt and amplifier. I did open out the (4) speaker mounting holes slightly just to give me some ‘wiggle’ room but t...
