Re: Distilled/de-ionised water?
Our window cleaners always took great interest in my home restoration so when I was wondering what to use I had a rare brainwave. They had just changed to the long pole method which requires very pure water (after one of them nearly killed himself falling off a ladder) and had invested in reverse os...

Re: Knock on rear end (sounds painfull)
Phil, I hope you have solved the problem. If the rear radius arm bolt was loose I suspect that was the cause. As I said, in my case this bolt was tight but the shanked portion was very worn. By the way, without wishing to start more discussion I have always thought that a setscrew was threaded all th...

Re: Knock on rear end (sounds painfull)
I had exactly the same problem after completely, or so I thought, rebuilding the rear end, including the diff. My car also passed the MOT. It turned out to be the one thing I hadn't replaced, the bolt securing the rear radius arm bush ( the one which passes through the bush). It was considerably wai...

Why not a little consideration? Might I suggest nearside (left) ?

Re: Royal Jaguar?
Does anyone else think the fit of the chrome window frame to the A-post is poor? I have been struggling with this on my restoration but have got it better than the pictures would suggest,

Re: SerII Engine Removal
Interesting. This subject has been discussed before but I don't think I have seen that exact method described. Why didn't you just reposition the hoist and lift the car free of the engine/gearbox once it was on the floor. Saves a lot of crawling about under the car. I have used both the lift it out ...

Re: Overheating coil?
If this is any help I have owned a late series 2 for 40 years. It does have ballast resistor and a relay. Whilst restoring the car over the last few years it took me quite a while to find the correct original position for the relay. It is on the right hand side of the bulkhead in the engine bay to t...

Re: Tried to fire her up tonight...but no....
I think Steve may be right. I had this problem after rebuilding the engine and we discovered that we had somehow assembled the distributor drive shaft 180 degrees ( if I remember correctly) out. I agree that the relationship of the distributor to the TOP of the drive shaft cannot vary but the orient...

Re: How remove seized bleed screw
Steve, I would heat the nipple with an oxy-acetylene torch. Blow lamps are often just not hot enough. Yes, it will cause the nipple to expand but what expands then contracts and it is this movement, combined with burning the corrosion which does the trick. Good luck. On another matter I have just fi...

Rear hub removal using the spinner
Correct - I wasn't impecunious before I bought the E-type, ?2400 in 1977. I didn't know what I was doing and the car was a disaster. Still got it , though.

hub removal using spinner
It can be done but I only mention it in case someone has no access to a press. many years ago, when I was young, impecunious and, perhaps foolish, I did succeed using this method. It took me two days and the splines clung on to the last quarter of an inch. Definitely not to be recommended. Mike Will...

introduction- manifolds
Thanks for the replies, Angus and Christopher. No, there are no old sealing rings. I think you are right and I will have to source some more manifolds. I did consider changing to fabricated manifolds but on balance decided against.

Introduction
Hello, this is my first post and I would be grateful for some advice. By way of introduction, I have owned my series 2 OTS IR1430 since 1977 after which I used it almost daily for 6 years before taking it off the road for a little minor refurbishment. Familiar story no doubt but, as many may have gu...
