There was a stop plate originally fitted to the brake pedal on at least some 4.2s. It is often missing so may not have been on all.

Re: Laser Welding
Hi Phil ,nothing difficult about welding cast iron as long as the material is fairly thick ,probably the best for bet your block would be the stitching technique shown in the Practical Classics E type restoration book? If that is the Colin Ford restoration he told me that he heard the block later f...

Re: independent back to back classic tyre test.
Nice to see some facts on what is otherwise a very subjective topic.
If not replacing all four tyres at the same time, this gives the pros and cons of where to fit the better pair https://www.oponeo.co.uk/blog/better-ty ... st-results .

Re: Series 1 - Dunlop Clutch master cylinder push rod length
Initially I put washers on the studs between master cylinder and pedal box to get to the right pedal height. When I got the spacer (available from other suppliers btw) it was way too thick so I thinned it to the same thickness as the washers. I did change the studs at the same time although it wasn'...

Re: Series 1 - Dunlop Clutch master cylinder push rod length
I cant tell you the length of the pushrod as my car has a repro master cylinder which may be different, but to get the pedal heights aligned I used a spacer from the later cars which worked very well.

Re: Clutch master cylinder spacer
On my S1 when aligning the pedal heights I first put plain washers between the clutch MC and housing to simulate the spacer. That allowed me to settle on the necessary thickness without touching the clevis which I agree is a pain....

Re: Wipers - RHD bench test video
Thanks Joe, There’s no conversion here - my car is original RHD Australian delivered. We were careful when we dismantled it to label the arms (assuming they were correct). Thanks for the heads up. I won’t assume everything is spot on when we re-install it. It was just nice to see it operate after d...

Re: Wipers - RHD bench test video
Good setup to provide piece of mind before you go through the trauma of fitting, Glenn.
There was recent discussion here about the outboard arm lengths being different so they need to be swapped during a LH-RH conversion. Is that the case here? The swept angles look very similar in your video.

Re: Repairing fuel level sender?
Thanks Andrew. I tried to apply solder to the broken wire with no success at all, possibly because I cant think how to clean the surface of something so fine. Life is too short to experiment with rewinding and Nisonger haven't responded to say if they can fix it, Pete, so I think it is time for a ge...

Re: Wiper splines, Spindle dismantling, Bizarre Shapes ?
I imagine that the correct procedure would be to drill out the three deformed punched areas, and use a small puller, followed by pressing the assemblies back together and treating the interface to 3 new punch marks in fifferent places. However, as I will get much better at doing this once I've done...

Re: Repairing fuel level sender?
Thanks, both. I could not move the winding assembly and the wire itself seemed to be firmly attached to the core as if glued in place so I'm not sure I could even undo one turn. The wire is so fine I didn't think I would be able to successfully solder it even if it was copper, so a mechanical connec...

Repairing fuel level sender?
My fuel level sender has stopped working as the very thin resistance wire has broken at one end of the coil / winding. I would prefer on principle to repair rather then replace (especially with the generic mechanism that seems the only option) but can't think of any practical way to tackle this. Any...

Re: Wiper Drive Pimary Link, what does the "eccentric" do ?
Rory - I scratched my head over the reason for that mechanism when converting to RHD. As no one at the time could explain it, when I finally understood I did a post which I just found linked in the knowledge base with some photos http://www.xkedata.com/resources/read/?id=9 where I wrote: If interest...

Re: Windscreen shape and width OTS
I can't tell you the dimension but 15y ago had a windscreen fitted to my 1963 OTS by Robey's. Their technique was to get all the screens out of the store room and select the one that fitted best ! Before you look at buying another, have you tried fitting the newer one? If panels have been changed yo...

My Aug 1963 OTS has a locking handles so they do fit.
I wasn't aware it was non standard - is the 4.2 changeover point listed in the official parts book or the SNGB one?

I have no experience of using the belts inside the boot but I believe these people make the fitting you need to tidy up the slot. https://www.quickfitsbs.com/index.php

Then they found it had thrown a big-end & the con-rod had got wedged up in the block. It can't be that, Hugo, as it shows good compression. There have been a couple of suggestions already you may not have followed through, Jerome: 1. Turn over the engine without starting and pull that spark plug + ...

Caerbont manufacture Smiths gauges and senders and show oil pressure transducers that look different to the normal ones.
