Re: What problems with Crankcase Breather fitted this way?

That is so wrong - that will just clog the paper air filter with oil - if your mechanic did that to my car I would be getting a new mechanic because his knowledge is poor.

Check the fluid level as per the handbook - I had a similar issue and it was just low fluid.

Re: AC Compressor- Anyone have this happen?

Have you observed the engine and the compressor when it is running? Looks to me as if the compressor has an issue and the belt is having trouble turning it and the belt is slipping on the compressor pulley and the belt is shedding rubber accordingly. I would remove the belt and check the movement of...

Re: S3 Engine Lifting Eyes

They should be on the engine - they are located on the outer side of each rocker cover (front and rear) - one lifting eye just an inch or two back from where the cam chain runs (one on either side of the engine) and the rear eyes are located on the same outer side of the rocker covers, again about a...

Re: Voltage regulator.....anyone an electrician?

I rebuilt mine with parts from an electronics parts supplier about 30 years ago and it is still going well. However 18v straight from the alternator seems a bit high.

Re: Differential Pinion Shaft Collapsible Spacer

I also live in the Landrover world and my truck has a sals in the front diff and the rear diff. In the 4wd world the advice is never to use a collapsible spacer for rebuilds if you want to maintain diff integrity.

Bills advice is spot on.

Re: Loose valve tappet guide or?

I certainly agree it could be tappets but it does sound more like a vacuum leak or even an exhaust manifold leak.

Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

PS where you going, I didn't appreciate that your car was actually on the road?

Re: Help! Torsion Bar Quandry

I cannot really help as mine have been in and out a number of times but many years ago - all I can say is that mine went in relatively simply and there were no obstructions and mine did not touch the wishbone. All I can suggest is that you need to look again at how you are installing these as the OE...

Re: Dayton wire wheels S3 roadster

While we are on wire wheels - what is the general consensus - Dayton or Dunlop (MWS) wheels? For me in Aust the price is very similar for either brand. Neither company will sell to me direct because they have sellers here but these rip off merchants charge nearly double the overseas price (we call i...

Re: S1 & 420G similarity

Arguable the Mk10/420G is now a rarer vehicle that similar aged E types (yes certainly not as valuable) - unless the 420G is a total wreck and not recoverable it would be a shame to "dismantle" a old classic for parts for another.

Re: Looking for my old E-Type reg "XKE 75"

Magazines and papers rarely own the copyright on pics they use - they also rarely pay for them either for routine stuff and if an issue arises deal with it then. I was publishing a government document and wanted to use a pic that was published in a national news paper and they were going to charge u...

Oh dear - so they are - still look like crap though - well you did say you could take it

Look - it is your car, while I am flattered that you have sought our opinion, what really matters is what you prefer. Go with what you are happy with

Black wheels look OK on modern SUVs but no good on older classics. I would change the wires back to silver or chrome - black just does not look right.

Re: No Registration Documents

someone who ever they are have gone to the trouble of "removing" its identity ---engine , gearbox , bulkhead plate . Maybe so but with Series 3s the Body Number which then counts as the VIN in my country is stamped into the fire wall so the identity can be determined. If it has been cut out and is ...
