Re: Engine intermittantly cutting out.

Ausie E Type - not to be confused with the real AussieEtype

I cannot help with your question but welcome to the forum

Barbie.

My place, Saturday.

Nope, I've never found a good one.
Yeah - I guessed so which is a shame - lots of Aussies on here so all is not lost. In addition to Etype info I am now looking for aussie XJ12 info which is a bit hard to find.

Cheers

Have a look here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/aust ... smania-94/
Thanks for that - is a US site with regional sections and not used much - but certainly an option.

Australian Jaguar Forums

I have been a member of this forum for many many years and obtained a lot of great information. I also use Jag Lovers (in the USA?) which is also a source. I have not been able to find any dedicated Australian forums, covering not only the Etype but Jaguars overall. Most other brands like Land Rover...

Yes definitely not yellow cad on UK cars - I have that book signed by Richard himself and it is a great book but you need to be aware it primarily deals with US cars but he does often highlight differences in the text.

Re: Possible bent valve stem causing engine to lock up

Even with worn and broken thrust bearings I am not sure I understand what caused the engine to lock up while running. Even if the conrods or crank could catch on something the forces of a running engine would push past that - might hear a bang or a thump but the engine would keep running. Same as de...

Re: E-Type Chassis ID Plate S1 Auto NON Power steer - Do they exist?

Hi Stuart, thanks for the help. I had a look but it looks like they only have the Ids that say Gear Box No, and not Automatic Transmission No, did yours say Automatic..? Thanks, Blair My understanding is that if there is BW after the body number it indicates an auto and the number in the gearbox se...

Re: An interesting state of Model years

Sorry Chris MY does not mean Manufactured Year - it is Model Year - as I indicated these days that means from the previous year and did apply to many cars back in the 50s. Eg I have two Land Rovers made in 1955 but they are 56 MY - EH Holden was MY 64 but was released in 63 - I believe but am not su...

Re: An interesting state of Model years

You car presented very well on the auction site and I think you got a bit of a bargain there - relatively easy to convert to RHD but I would be driving as left hand drive until you have accumulated all the necessary bits and then get it done quickly. XKE Data clearly shows cars were built in 1970 an...

Re: An interesting state of Model years

MosBoss - what makes you think that your car was built in 1970? Any particular documentation? I just had a look at your car on XKE Data and while no build date is given it does indicate it is a 1971 model. Oh and I recognise your car from the auction site. Scrolling back through earlier cars than yo...

Re: Octane Rating for SA V12

Hi Colin - yes I found the answer in a different V12 handbook - but that was all written about 50 years ago and was thinking did it still apply with modern unleaded fuels. Engines, both old and new, that have compression ratios in the 8.?:1 can run happily on our 91 unLeaded so I would have thought ...

Octane Rating for SA V12

I understand that SA numbered V12 engines are 9.1:1 compression ratio. At this compression ratio should we be using 95 or 98 RON Octane fuel - I think 95 should be OK but some say 98 to be safe.

Lets assume ignition is set to standard by the handbook and not advanced.

Thanks

Re: Black Polybush issues?

I think the issues you raise with "black" polybushes also apply to most other polybushes. In 1999 I fitted purple Nolathane poly bushes to my Series 3 - these bushes are Australian made and have a decent reputation. My car has not been on the road for nearly 30 years and other than one or two drives...

Hi - my neighbour had a 66 Etype and replaced the 4 speed in it with a 5 speed kit from V&A Spiteri in Blackburn in Melbourne - right near you. http://www.vicspiteri.com.au/ My neighbour installed the T5 kit http://www.vicspiteri.com.au/products_gearbox.html The kit went in easily and worked excepti...

Re: Correct black colour Hardtop Series 3

I have a black series 3 OTS and a black hardtop - the gel coat (not painted) is the same colour (shade of black) as the car so you will be fine if you use the same colour code as BLack series 3s.

Re: Inertia Reel Seatbelts 2+2

Hi all, I’ve imported a 1972 2+2 from New Zealand into Queensland, Australia. I’ve been told it needs to have inertia reel seatbelts to be compliant. It currently has static belts. I’d be interested to know what type of belts were originally fitted to ‘72 2+2’s in Australia, please let me know what...

If you think it's expensive to maintain an E-type in Canada try South Africa!! 😁😁
Or even worse half way around the world in Australia

A first world problem I think.

Hi Chris,

Have you tried Classic Windscreens in Sydney (Lidcombe) https://local.infobel.com.au/AU10054830 ... combe.html

When I last needed a screen for my Series 3 I got it from them.

Good luck
