Re: BW transmission pressure
thanks Bob, looks like the mystery port is in a location back and low on the left side of the tranny. not at all like the illustrations in the Haynes manual. 3 days wasted pulling carpets and switching out pressure gauges... these cars sure are fun to wrench on. I'll let you know how it goes later t...

Re: BW transmission pressure
loosing reverse made me think that the port I opened was the wrong one. But since there was no port on the driver's side it seemed like the passenger side port was only other one to try. Is there another spot that I could search for to try test tranny pressure?

BW transmission pressure
After waiting a while to get my carbs rebuilt, I finally got the car back and I was told that my kickdown cable was sticking, and was preventing the throttle linkage from a full return to idle. I finally got the cable moving smoothly, throttle working well, so I thought I would check the tranny pres...

matching numbers?
Just a dumb question: should the engine number and the cyl head number match? I had an interested buyer look at my 68 2+2 and he said my cyl number was different so not original to the car.
thanks for the help.
thanks for the help.

Re: Transmission oil cooler removal....
If the trany fluid has not mixed with the engine coolant then a quick temporary fix would be to get a dedicated trany cooler from Summit or some other shop and plumb the lines into it. There is room in front of the main rad to add a small tranny cooler. I did this so I could cool down the trany bett...

I've been trying to chase down an annoying squeak for the last year. At first I thought the front U joint might be the the issue, then the front exhaust manifold ring seal. Both have been addressed and still no relief  . The noise only starts after 15-20 minutes of driving, so yesterday I dro...

Re: Speed and revs, 60mph = 4100 revs!
Hey David, most if not all mechanic shops can connect a test lead to their diagnostics and give you the real revs. My tach was reading 1,000 high at 3,000 rpm and I thought it was reving high by the noise. Once you know the real revs you can decide what to do next.

Re: Air Conditioning/Engine Heat in Cabin
I've had the same heat issues with my 68. Two things that have helped me: I added a shut off valve on the right side of the engine near the firewall so no hot coolant can run through the dash and heater box. My connection between the air vent on the bonnet and the intake on the heater box did not se...

Re: another voltage question
Half the problem solved. I removed the temp sender and bench tested it with a spare battery. It still read +20F too high, so the brand new sender was the problem. Bad right out of the box. I got another new sender and bench tested it before installing and it read spot on. The tach must be just slowl...

Re: another voltage question
I checked the earth connections at the center dash and all was good there. Voltage at the battery was 13.3 , then 14 at idle, and 15 at 2,000 rpm At the regulator one terminal was 14.5 at idle, and 15 at 2,000 rpm second terminal bouncing 11 - 13 V at 2,000 rpm the 15 V seems to within spec accordin...

another voltage question
I checked the archives but still have to ask what is going on. A few day ago my water temp gauge started reading high -205 instead of the usual 185- and my tach showed revs about 1100 higher than actual (I have a small tach that shows real RPM) and the stock tach has read 600 high for two years. I'm...

I've got a full set of toggles from a early Jag sedan. Pretty sure they are the same. Also have all the Smiths instruments. I'm in Canada so maybe someone is closer to you.

Re: Does This Only Happen To Me?
S%*t happens! I was heading down the highway three years ago in my XK8 and noticed a brown liquid coming from the bonnet seam, and flipping onto the windscreen. I thought it was an oil leak or worse, so I pulled over. When I came to the front of the car there was a massive bird deposit up front that...

Lester, I checked my spare dash. I have the red indicator but not the knob. An earlier knobectomy by previous owner I suppose.

Het Lester, I have a full dash from a Mk 2. Same instruments/knobs as the E-type series 1. I'll check tonight and see if it has the window heating knob. Will let you know.

Just for future consideration if members are asked to have their car used in a film or photo shoot: My brother owns several Maseratis and was recently asked about using them in a 3 hour film shoot. They paid him $3,000 US , the Ghibli was parked and the Quatroport was driven 50 ft and parked and the...

Re: noisy half shaft
Continued good news, several 1 hr trips in the car and all is quiet from the IRS/U-joints. An unexpected result of re-gearing the differential from 3.57 to 3.07 is the speedo is now bang on (it was reading 10-15 km/hr proud before the change).
