Re: Spring Clip

Thanks Steve. Having thought about it over night, I thought this was probably the only logical solution but many thanks for confirming. Think I will leave it off as all seems fine without it.

Re: Hot & Bothered Gears and Starter

Thanks Steve & Phil. Good advice thanks. I will do the oil change and bleed system again and see (hear) what happens.

Re: Spring Clip

Hi Chris. Thanks for the suggestion, which was my first thought. It is more of a figure of 8 clip, although it would serve a similar purpose but I cannot see how it would prevent the element moving. The element is held one (outer) end by the spring, acting on the domed plate and on the engine end by...

Re: Hot & Bothered Gears and Starter

Hi Steve. I have checked clutch pushrod and all seems correct. Also if it was this, I am not sure why I would only be getting the problem when the car is hot. Baffling...

Hot & Bothered Gears and Starter

1963 3.8 FHC. Two unrelated issues except they both only happen when the car is thoroughly hot. Firstly, it can be impossible to select reverse without a nasty grating noise - like the clutch is dragging. Selecting another gear first or taking things really slowly makes no difference. No problem wit...

Spring Clip

Hopefully an easy answer I am missing... . Consulted Service Manual and Haynes and both show in the exploded drawing of the oil filter assembly, a spring clip seemingly associated with the long central bolt which goes through the canister and oil filter element. When I removed my element there was n...

Stubborn Glass

Hi. I have removed the o/side 'No Draught Ventilator' (rear side window) as a complete unit (glass and frame). The glass is badly scratched so I want to replace it. I have removed the vertical part of the chromed frame, leaving the glass in the 'U' shaped part of the frame. Unfortunately, the glass ...

Re: Dynamo conversion

I have done this on a +ve earth car. Smaller pulley not necessary in my opinion. Personally I would fit the dummy regulator - it is an easy job. Slightly more tricky is fitting the relay behind the dash but you should be OK if you take your time and follow the instructions carefully.

I would echo previous comment and seriously think about keeping the Moss box and save $5k.

Re: Insurance

Another vote for Hagerty Insurance. They are efficient, sensible and well informed. I was with Adrian Flux prior to this and was less than impressed, particularly over the issue of an agreed valuation. No I have no personal interest in Hagerty!

Re: Dynalite relay wiring

Hi Richard

I have double checked on my car with your photos and agree with Mark - the relay appears to be wired correctly.

Re: Dynalite relay wiring

Hi Richard

I have just studied your posts again. I think you may have the relay incorrectly wired. Can you send me a photo of the connector side of relay, similar to one I posted?

Re: Dynalite relay wiring

Hi Richard, I feel your frustration! I spent a few hours going in circles when I did it, until I realised the wire I thought went to the ignition light...didn't. I'll re-read your posts and give it some more thought but may be a difficult one to resolve without actually seeing it. Can you send a cou...

Re: Dynalite relay wiring

Here you go. Relay is wired directly to ignition switch with white wire indicated, on the terminal next to the brown/white wire with black insulating tape showing!. On my car, the white wire is on the same connector as red wire (sorry I have confused you with 'ignition'). As an aside, I assume you h...

Re: Dynalite relay wiring

Hi Richard, I have never posted images before so I hope this is going to work (if not PM me and we will use email)! Hopefully when my car was restored the original colour coding of wires was used... First of all ignore fuse 7. The white wire from the ignition light (which you say you have identified...

Hi Richard,

OK leave it with me! Hopefully when I drop the dash panel, it will all be obvious....
