Re: stub axle nut tool?

Sitting with the same problem and saw this on eBay. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F264194628782 However I think this will not work due to the fact that I have the same recess as you have on my 66. Finally used hammer and a pin punch that smashed th...

Re: Stripped sump plug thread

Tread on sump plug was checked with a standard feeler gauge and yes 18 treads per inch.

The same tread for the sump plug is also quoted in other topics here and on JL forum.

You could maybe also use a standard 5/8 unf bolt to check your plug.

Re: Stripped sump plug thread

Hi, Tread is not BSF or UNC Right tread for original oil plug is UNF 5/8 x 18. I tested with old oil plug and new purchases from one of the usuals also rechecked with my other S1.5 E-type all was the same. Agree that UNF are not perfect for aluminium sump but I guess that’s why we have this problem....

Re: Stripped sump plug thread

I did mine with heli coil one year ago and yes it’s 5/8” UNF tread. A tip is to make sure the heli coil drilling in done in a correct angle, otherwise you will have a leak. I got mine just about right and could tighten it to seal properly. Mine was done in situ but I would recommend removing the pan...

Re: Changing differential ratio

Thanks for the advice that means that it will fit my S1 differential.
Or even better to contact AJS and perhaps they also have quality S1 CWP if they’re different from S2?

Re: Flaring tool

Make your own it’s easy, very rewarding and will look absolutely gorgeous and original if you use copper nickel piping. I have made all brake pipes on my OTS using original as templates. You just need a good pipe bending tool and some practice testing some pieces that will cost you close to nothing....

Re: Front cross member jacking wood

I have used RHS profile - I think it was 30x30x2 and used plastic sound deadening material (with glue on one side used on the floors inside). Tacked this on 3 sides, not the side where you use as lifting point, and it made a nice tight fit into underside of the front frame. Secured the profile at th...

Re: S1 4.2 hard to start

Hi Carsten! Your problem is as you say "Pistons in carbs elevate to about 1\2 inches from the bridge". Pistons should rest on the bridge and you need to adjust the jets to have the piston free falling to the bridge. This is not easy with carbs in situ but I think it can be done. See instructions in ...

Re: Door locks

Hi Bob, Nothing wrong based on the video. The plunger should get stocked when turned at a certain angle. There is a bracket with same hole pattern that are turning the plunger and make the button pushing on the locking mechanism at this specific angel. One of the usual problem is when the screw and ...

Re: New alternator fitting

Only not covered and main difference between ac and non-ac alternator is the cooling fan. Since ac alternator is running "backwards" the fins of the fan is turned differently. You can buy a non-ac fan from the usual suppliers. However the ac alternator fan is very difficult to source and can easily ...

Re: Misfire when hot

Had similar problem with pentronix and original coil, not a good combination. Misfire on idle and at very high revs. If you have this combo I suggest you bin the pentronix or change coil to one that can handle pentronix ignition. Did go back to standard configuration for awhile but now moved to Mega...
