Re: Prescott Hil

Tony, Recent years the turnout has been quite poor. This year we had Masaerttis Healeys Caterhams and a few others joining in, but even with these additions the ‘paddock’ was less than half full. 15 years ago it would have been packed with over 100 Es plus Mk2s etc with other marques resigned to the...

Re: Oil levels

Maybe my explanation was confusing, I fill with 9 rather than 10 litres, adding the next 1 litre over 3,000 miles as oil is burned or drops onto tarmac, making a total of 10 litres per oil change. I stand by my experience, that my more marginal overfilling hasn’t damaged my engine yet, and as alread...

Re: Oil levels

Malcolm, Others will disagree with this, try and tell me I’m trashing my engine and forecast all kinds of damage that may be caused as a result, but...... this is my experience with my car’s engine for all of the last 16 years and over 60,000 miles. I always overfill the sump. Top of the hash mark a...

Re: Acoustic Cameras

Interesting and so full of holes, that only a politician (who didn’t like people enjoying themselves) could have thought of it. Yesterday, at Prescott (see other posts), one of the loudest cars to run up the hill wasn’t an E with a free flowing straight through exhaust, nor was it one of the many ra...

Prescott Hil

The E-Type Register’s annual bash at Prescott today. First one that I’ve been to when Norman Dewis wasn’t there. Not many Es there either. I’ve been at Prescott in earlier years with north of 100 E-Types turning up, many of which went up the hill. In fun, of course, no competition! Two cars stood ou...

Re: A very late 3.8

“Maybe they did just grab whatever part was nearest, and slap it on???” Yup, that’s pretty much what happened, especially in the early days when the factory were desperate to get cars out of the door. (Source of this information is someone who was there, then.) However that doesn’t mean that any par...

Re: Purchasing an E - advice?

If you have a budget that precludes considering much of the E-Type market, then you could be looking for a 2+2. These are the best value Es by a long way. All the E-Type experience, half the purchase price. I came into E-Type ownership 16 years ago, with a budget, and bought my S1 2+2 from a retaile...

Re: Stop lamps and sidelight circuits.

Check that the light units are adequately earthed. What could be happening is that the brake light is earthing back through the sidelight circuit. It is quite common with corroded lights on older British Iron after many winters.

Wilton Wakeup.

A disappointing turnout of Es and Jaguars generally. There were more Daimlers than Jaguars, and more MGCs than Daimlers. There were some very interesting other cars as well. An Lancia Fulvia with its narrow V4 engine. https://i.postimg.cc/tCH5rtPg/46409-C66-F58-E-48-B0-9577-9830-B1485163.jpg A nice ...

First 1000 miles done this season. Breakfast on Sunday at Wilton House. There will be a lot of classics on show.

“Shame he had to go. Now we’ll never know how to remove the gearbox from a SWB E“

“I was going to offer him my quick release engine mounts - just pull back on the levers and the engine drops to the floor, ”

That’s how he did it!

Re: Member Banned from forum

I’d already “banned” him from my posts. The forum software allows one to selectively ignore an individual’s posts.

Shame he had to go. Now we’ll never know how to remove the gearbox from a SWB E-Type without removing the engine as well. He takes that unique ability with him.

Re: Inspection Lights

I replaced my 5ft fluorescent tubes with 5ft long LED units. Nice and bright, no delay to start (in fact the starter has to be removed) and only 11 watts each. The LED tubes fit the old fittings. Not sure if this helps.

Re: How to set camber, caster and toe-in DIY ?

In all things I measure twice, cut (adjust) once. Then measure twice again. And adjust (cut) if necessary. And repeat until no longer necessary. Then measure twice again just to be sure. BTW, I set my castor by plumb bob and line. Simple, no special tools, just faith in the uniformity (at a small sc...

Re: Security matters

Yup, it appears my mistake was to leave the tracker unused from October to March. Never mind. I called the phone company, a new sim is on its way with the balance of credit applied from the old account. £11. That should last another two or three years. Texts are 2p. And I’ll order another cheapie tr...
