Re: Help needed. - Starter failure

Got the car back today. Turned out that the electrical problem was the battery not the dynamo/ alternator. The oil leak was linked to a joint at the oil pressure pump. The garage also fixed 2 gas leaks. BTW, the guy who owns the garage races the Le Mans Vlasddic every year and in his younger days ra...

Re: Help needed. - Starter failure

Lucky it happened today as we had planned to spend time with friends from Brussels in this area. The hotel we booked was just 30 minutes away from the garage. Our friends picked us up and ee are now relaxing in the hotel waiting for a call from the garage. Will keep you posted. I think we may have p...

Re: Help needed. - Starter failure

Thanks to all for the quick responses. Jaguar Bayonne send us to a garage specialized in classic cars. Turned out it was not the starter but the alternator. They will replace it. However, there are 2 other issues: loss of oil and a strange sound. Hopefully all done when we leave for home on Monday. ...

Help needed. - Starter failure

We are still on our Tour de France. This morning, the car (S1 4.2) did not start. It only made a click when I pushed the starter button. I first thought it might be the battery but after we push started the car, the ampimeter indicated that the battery was charged. We drove for a good 30 minutes bef...

Re: Horn push assembly

Thanks. I will check the wiper contact. I also thought that the relay was near the battery (it was the only part that I found that resembled the design of the relay that I found on the SG Barrat side). It did not make a click though when I pushed the horn button.

Horn push assembly

Ian currently on the road in France. All good, except that the horn stopped working (again). I checked the fuse and it is ok. I could not detect any click on the relay, although I am not sure I correctly located the relay. I wanted to check the horn push assembly but don’t know how to access/open it...

Answer -- What could be the cause of this noise

Again thanks to everyone. The culprit was indeed the waterthrower. My garage simply took it out saying that it is in any event not a necessary piece.

Re: What could be the cause of this noise

Thanks for the responses.

Excuse my ignorance but what exactly is the waterthrower?

What could be the cause of this noise

Driving my S1 4.2 OTS on the motor way, I suddenly notice an odd noise seeming to come from the rear back. It's a pretty high pitch sounding as if one shakes a ring with a bunch of keys. The noise is not constant but appears when you drive over a bump in the road, also when driving over it a fairly ...

Steering wheel question

My S1 OTS is registered in Germany. Last Friday I took it to the TÜV (the German equivalent to what I think is the MOT in the UK). They took issue wit the steering wheel. They said that only wheels that have a letter combination engraved are permissible. Others could be cheap and unsafe aftermarket ...

Re: Fuel pump not working after winter

Thanks for all the good advice. Eventually, I decided replacing the pump by an electronic pump. Once installed, the car started at the second attempt and that after having been idle since October. I then got an oil change and a good thorough check and now look forward to the season.

Re: Fuel pump not working after winter

First of all, thanks for the responses so far. I checked that the pump has power and it does. I also tried the hammer again several times but unfortunately to no avail. Mark, would you have a picture of the Bakelite or plastic cap? And where would I find the fuel filter? Sorry for asking such basic ...

Fuel pump not working after winter

I tried to start my S1 after the winter (last tour about late October). Battery ok but fuel pump does not seem to work (no tock tock tock after turning the key). I already tried to deblock it hitting it with hammer but no luck. I also opened the fuel tank, which is about half full. Any suggestions w...

Thanks Ralph. The garage did take it to a test ride but, to be fair, this only occurs in certain situations (hard right turn, low speed, acceleration). I did not notice it on the way from the garage to the highway (although I did do a couple of hard right turns). So it is possible that this simply d...

What could this noise be?

I had a new 5 speed gearbox put into my S1 4.2 OTS together with a new propshaft. Also had new tires mounted. Drove it over 1000 km already. All fine except one thing. On sharp right turns, at fairly low speed, but under load, there is a loud noise, like a tock, tock bang, and you feel something is ...

Christopher and Andrew: Thanks.

Christopher: What do you mean by taking the glass out for the trim? I should have mentioned that they did not re-trimm the dashboard.
