Re: My 16 yr old son thinks about doing a journey to London...

To answer the previous post about flying, 16 is old enough to go on your own. Some airlines even take you at 14! My eldest did a trip at 14 with Wizzair. He's travelled a lot but he was taken to the airport and we met him at the other end. As a Londoner all my life and also a dad, I wouldn't let two...

Re: Quick Release Steering Wheel

David I know what you mean about walking into the hotel reception. Two years ago I went into a French hotel reception to check in and plonked my steering wheel on the counter. The lady just said "ah, you have a classic car". Apparently they had a lot of car clubs stay at that hotel and removable ste...

Re: How do I change the headlamps on my series 1 E-Type?

The bulb has two filaments, one for dipped and one for main beam. As you use dipped more often, it is quite likely that it has "worn out". The two filaments are completely separate, just like a combined stop/tail light bulb.

Re: Brake Failure

Hi

When I bought mine three years ago it was losing brake fluid in a serious way. Took it back to the dealer and he said it was pumping into the servo. He changed it and no problems since.

Re: Speed and revs, 60mph = 4100 revs!

David As per other posters, I had a 3.54 diff and could easily get 100+ plus out of the car although very highly geared. Now I have a 3.07 and it's much better so would recommend it, I think mine was done by AJS. Why don't you get someone in a modern car to drive at 70 in front of you and see what y...

Re: MOT

I had mine done two weeks ago and the guy told me that it most likely was a fail as the hazard warning lights were not working. Not having ever used them, this was news to me. He then went on the computer to check properly as he said they were not compulsory but if fitted they should work. I've alwa...

Re: Open Day April 2019

Me too, thanks Angus and team.

The cars that came were stunning examples in different ways. I felt so ashamed of my car being so dirty that I washed it when I got home and polished the back half before the missus found me and made me do some “useful” jobs.

Re: MOT exempt certificate

Regarding christophers comments about re-taxing, I received the normal re-tax form with zero charge, go online and do it. I had the car MOT'd last year and will shortly do it again but didn't have to do anything about exemption? Regarding the ULEZ, I have great interest as I live just inside the Nor...

Re: New battery recommendation

Hi I've just replaced my Halfords battery with a new one. I let the old one drain too often but now have a trickle charger. I take the view that I'd rather have a working battery that has a three year guarantee and can be swapped out at any local Halfords if it goes wrong. My car is not a show winne...

Re: Dodgy coil?

Jeremy Two years ago Angus fitted a Pertronix to mine when he did the RHD conversion. I had misfiring problems that got worse when running at higher revs. Eventually couldn't get it over 3,000rpm. Took it to a rolling road, where he swapped the coil and got it to 4,000rpm without misfires, and prono...

Jerome

Your quote seems roughly in line with mine, given location and value, but I only get 5,000 miles/yr. This is enough right now but in the future who knows? Which insurer is RH, excuse my ignorance.

Re: Insurance

Peter No, my guaranteed value hasn't changed, only my premium went down. I'm very happy with a lower quote :thankyouyellow: I have a certificate from them and confirmation that I will get paid. It may be higher than the market value, but it repesents my investment plus a buggeration factor if I have...

Insurance

Morning all I know this is a topic that comes up fairly regularly but I was shocked to get a quote from Lancaster this week. I'm currently with Heritage, have a guaranteed value of £125k and a £100 excess. My renewal has just come in at £430, a reduction of £40 over last year. Most of the premium is...

Hi Marek

I have your original led reversing lights. Are you able to swap out those for the new ones, or do you need to replace the whole unit?

Re: my soft top leaks

You guys with OTSs don’t have problems with water ingress, you know it is coming in through the screen to hood gap. It isn’t a problem, it’s a fact. You get used to it. I know many roadsters are driven with the top down in all weathers. If it rains you just drive a little faster and the rain goes c...

I do have some views on the technical but strictly amateur. Happy to defer to others more wiser but also happy to fill a place if y...

The bit that gave it away for me was when the Ferrari went partly on the grass and twitched a fair bit. It then carried on as if it hadn't happened. If that had been real cue one wreacked Ferrari :seeingstars:

That would be a shame. Always enjoyed that part of my summer drive to Hungary, giving it some welly. I always will remember talking to two British bikers in a service area in Austria. The complained how everyone drove so fast in Germany, and clearly didn't care aout the speed limit :questionmarks: I...
