Re: soft top frame colour

My soft top frame is grayish blue.
A quick look on google for e-type hood frames and E-type soft top frames, most pictures show a blue or gray frame. I could only find one other picture of a black frame.

Re: Zenith Stromberg slow to drop revs. Bypass valve?

Idle adjusted! Feels a bit different when you take foot off accelerator but much improved from where it was. Thanks to all who helped!

Re: Zenith Stromberg slow to drop revs. Bypass valve?

So I made my block off gaskets with no holes except for the screw holes. The good part is, the car no longer overrevs when taking your foot off the accelerator. The bad part is the revs drop down to 200 rpm, and the ignition light flickers before recovering to a slightly lumpy 450 rpm idle. On bfast...

Re: Zenith Stromberg slow to drop revs. Bypass valve?

Made block off gaskets last night. Installed on the front carb. Idle comes down but car stumbles a bit as it falls to 500 RPM. Will install a block off gasket on the rear carb tonight. I would assume the problem lies with the bypass valve springs being worn out?

Re: Zenith Stromberg slow to drop revs. Bypass valve?

I replaced both bypass valve diaphragms. Road test was disappointing. The car still revs at 1100 to 1500 rpms when foot comes off the accelerator. Revs drop to idle when I come to a complete stop and move forward a few feet in first. As mentioned before the throttle linkage has been lubricated sever...

Zenith Stromberg slow to drop revs. Bypass valve?

Over the last year or so I have noticed the revs will stay at around 1100 rpm when taking my foot of the throttle. Occasionally at a stop light, the revs will eventually drop to proper idle on its own but usually I will have to put the car in first gear and inch forward a bit to get the car to drop ...

Proper series 2 replacement choke warning light tube

Does anyone have a lead on where to find a replacement series 2 red jewel choke warning light tube? All I can find is the series 3 assembly which is wider in diameter so the original bulb holder falls out the back and would require enlarging the hole in the dash. Yes, I could make the series 3 item ...

Steering noise

After a run on a warm day, when the car turns i am getting a noise like the front tires are rubbing on the bonnet.
With the car stopped and bonnet lifted, theres a "chirp" where the column exits the cover at the bulkhead.
Is this anything to worry about?
Can this be lubricated?

Re: Radio console restoration

Thanks for the tips guys. The oven cured paint gave me an idea. I think my powder coater has a black wrinkle finish. I might try that as appears to have same look as the rattle can paint but should be more durable.

Radio console restoration

I am installing a retrosound radio to my car with new flat mount speakers. The crinkle finish paint on the console is chipped and missing in some spots. Id like to keep this looking as original as possible. Does anyone have any tips on how to paint this so it looks like the original finish?

Series 2 dashtop

My series 2 roadsters dashtop is starting to develop some cracks in the vinyl. Looking at catalogues from the usual vendors, it looks like you can buy a dashtop for series 3 cars and series 2 coupes. Has anyone found a supplier of dashtops for the series 2 roadsters?

Re: Poor shifting

Took the car out again yesterday. Able to shift to reverse without grinding but selecting 1st or 2nd, it still feels "notchy". In 3rd gear while quickly accelerating from 30 mph to 50 mph, car feels slow. Hard acceleration at 50 mph, it feels like clutch slips. The fluid in the clutch reservoir is v...

Re: Poor shifting

Thanks for the replies.
Gives me a few things to check.
The car is Series 2 LHD OTS that has been in my family since the early 1980's.
The car has done 40,000 miles.
In the time our family has had the car it has not had any engine or clutch work done.
Might be time for a new clutch.

Poor shifting

My 4 speed manual car has deveolped a bit of a shifting issue where it is hard to select reverse, first and second without grinding the gears. It seems to shift better after driving for a bit. The fluid reservoir is full. There doesnt seem to be any information regarding linkage adjustment in the wo...

Re: Overheated!

Yes Keith, the culprit was the fuse block!
There was indeed evidence of some heat and melting. The fuse block was replaced, all circuits checked and engine given a good inspection.
Looks like all is well.
