Re: Feeling a bit gutted today

Sending an oil sample to the laboratories for analysis to see what they can come up with. It may give me a good indication of how bad or good things are in the engine. Fingers crossed and may give me some confidence for £60.

Re: Safe Storage

It's like those bits that you trip over every day for a year or two until the day you want them. That's when for some reason they disappear. I hate it when that happens. You then go and buy another one only to find the old one when it arrives. Maybe we should have a big box with " Only for items you...

Re: Feeling a bit gutted today

Thank you Christopher for all the help and advice today. I have ordered up new gaskets etc and will put it all back together to see how it runs. I now know a little bit more about the E type Engine. I think our conclusion today was that the knocking if it existed was so slight and inconsistant that ...

Re: Feeling a bit gutted today

HI Christopher, 10.30 is ok, the problem is the mechanical scope is due for delivery tomorrow and may not be here then. I have the medical scope we could use but I do not have the alloy rod' it may work or a wooden stick might do. Let me know if you still want to come.

Re: Feeling a bit gutted today

I have bought a mechanics stethoscope so hopefully that will hear any issues. I picked the car up today and I could hear a knocking noise but will be able the hear better with the scope. Christopher I would appreciate your opinion when you are available. Do you want me to come to yours or will you c...

Re: Feeling a bit gutted today

Thanks for that Christopher, I will get the car back, put it on the ramp and give you a ring. I will see if any of my hospital friends have a stethoscope. Not sure if putting the endoscope down the barrel will tell us anything. PS: Retroman, thankyou for your offer but Christopher only lives up the ...

Re: Feeling a bit gutted today

Hi Malcolm, Retroman, I will get it back tomorrow and see how the land lies. Will do a video and see what you all think. Thanks Retroman for the offer and I will come back when I know a bit more. Bob Bates is a Jaguar specialist so the signs are not good, but time will tell. I shall have a pint toni...

Re: Feeling a bit gutted today

The engine is running like clockwork. The drive to the garage felt smooth and ran really well. Not aware of any smoke or oil burning issues. I will try and get a video of the engine running when i get it back from the garage tomorrow.

Feeling a bit gutted today

Put the car into Bob Bates to get a few oil leaks sorted only to be told I have a serious knocking coming from number 3 cylinder. So it is an engine out Job to see what the size of the problem is. It is a little disappointing as the engine has only done 23k since a complete rebuild at VSE. I have to...

Re: Engaging first gear

Going into second is what I do to get over the problem but it something I feel I should not have to do with a gearbox that has only done 22k. I shall have to try a different oil and see it if that makes a difference. So at the moment the suggestion is DX3 ATF for a troublesome box .Any other comment...

Engaging first gear

Can anybody suggest why when my car gets really warmed up it is difficult to engage first gear. The car is a 1962 series 1 3.8 convertable running with a 5 speed Getrag box. It makes driving tiresome particularly when driving stop start in traffic and engaging first gear. When the engine is not full...

The hole in picture No30 is a drain hole. I am sure that is a standard feature on all cars. Unless I am wrong.

Re: Poking her nose out to see if Summer has arrived

I am afraid it was not me Christopher, I am not taking it out on principle at the moment unless a trip up to County Durham comes about. It seems approval has been given. John, you have a good memory it must be about 8 years ago when I built the garage and yes I do need to put the number plate on. It...

Re: Electric power steering

Thanks Andrew,
I thought there would be a lot more people who have electric power steering on the forum. It helps if you can get recommendations. It would seem the EZ unit is the better product and probable less hassle to fit, but at a £1000 more one has to wonder if it is that much better

Re: Electric power steering

Thanks for that Andrew, I did read these posts but was hoping someone may have fitted the Easy steer which is £1,000 pound cheaper than the EZ system.
So if anybody has fitted one is their E Type let me know what you think.

Electric power steering

Looking at fitting a power steering to my car. Reading through the the threads it seem only two companies in the game, EZ. £2,950 or Lite Steer around £2,000. There is mention of using a corsa unit for around £200 but no write about it or if it works. Anybody know of any more and ideas or thoughts T...
