Re: Camber angle shims (Correction)

Hello again Steve, Andrew and Mich, Well you were spot on, I swithed my attention to the front CASTOR and it was indeed way out on the LH side. It was relatively easy to adjust CASTOR but I found that doing so completely threw out all the good work I had done in reshiming the CAMBER. So Lesson I was...

Re: Choke adjustment

<t>Just to clarify my question, the mixture has been set with a Gunstons CO meter and is fine, and I have adjusted the slow idle screw (the big one) with an air meter and she ticks over steadily when warm.<br/> So the only problem remaining is that the choke enriches the mixture immediately the dash...

Re: Choke adjustment

Many thanks all for sharing your knowledge which I am now digesting. In the meanwhile, Ive attached some photos that show the middle carb when the choke slider is off, ie at the bottom of the slider. The screw in the foreground is the mixture adjustment screw. https://i.postimg.cc/pXMrzrD5/IMG-20201...

Choke adjustment

Hi All, The choke on my 1966 Series 1 4.2 triple SU car drops the jet and enriches the mixture immediatly the choke slider is moved upwards. Can anyone advise how I can reset it as per the manual, such that the first inch or so or upwards travel of the choke lever, only opens the throttle, and well ...

Re: Camber angle shims (Correction)

Thanks Guys. Its very reassuring to know that there is such a wealth of knowledge available, and so freely given. Hats off! This is something of a Masterclass for me, Im amazed that you have picked up my possible Castor problem just from the photos. Ive been concentrating so much on Camber that Ive ...

Re: Camber angle shims (Correction)

Dear Steve, Andrew, Michel, Many thanks for your advice. Well I have done the job and the shims are in, but it was tricky until I discovered the knack. The main problem I faced was that I could not open the gap enough to slide the new shims into place. Basically I was fighting against the vehicle we...

Camber angle shims (Correction)

SORRY TITLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CAMBER ANGLE SHIMS NOT CASTOR Has anybody successfull fitted the front camber angle shims without the special tool recommended in the Jag manual? The tool sets the car at the 'half laden position.' Ive tried to change the shims but they are nipped by the wishbone against...

Re: Fuel tank removal & refit

Thank you all for your constructive feedback. Im glad that the vid is proving useful. Regarding the point Christopher makes about drilling a hole in the bulkhead flange to fit the LH bolt:- I found that I could position the bolt and even rotate it, but it would not take up on the thread, without ver...

Re: Add YouTube videos to your posts

Thank you David.
The rogue link was the one that resulted from me following the instructions, but thanks anyway for deleting it. The working link was my second attempt, and just a simple cut & paste of the YouTube address.
Maybe I was over complicating it!

Re: Add YouTube videos to your posts

Hello Heuer, Could you pl help me with the Fuel tank removal/refit video which I have just posted? I followed your instructions as best I could, although eg I couldn't find the YouTube button you referred to so just used the media one. Anyway it won't play for some reason, even though it has been up...

Fuel tank removal & refit

Hi everybody, Before attempting this job I searched the website forums (incl this good one!) and picked up some very useful tips. As there seemed to be no single source to collect them all together, I decided to video the job with commentary. The job split down into 7 steps with approx. 2mins of vid...

Re: Heated rear window wiring

Thanks for photo Geoff. I attach a couple of similar shots of my window although Im not sure if it will help much! The white strands on the screen are just dust. Having tried the HRW again today and found it wanting, Im inclined to get the window out for a thorough nspection as a winter job. Best re...

Re: Heated rear window wiring

Hi Marek and thanks for your reply. I persuaded a local windscreen fitter to take a look at the HRW today, and they tested it with a bowl of hot water under the window. This showed that some of the elements are working, and many not, and their conclusion was that the elements themselves have deterio...

Re: Heated rear window wiring

Hello all, Can any of you advice me on how to fix my HRW, which is very feeble at the moment? Thanks to this and the original posts, I have established that all seems to be well with the HRW switch, relay, and wiring up to the rear door, where I get a healthy 12.3v. However the resistance from the b...

Ref the valuable info in this thread about setting the correct fuel and jet levels, would anybody like to comment on a couple of questions:- 1. Is the level of fuel in the jet crucial or not? Chris Rooke says in his book & articles about his epic restoration that it is, wheras the Burlens website (w...

JagWaugh, Many thanks for your thoughts and the sequenced list. Most of the items were set when the car was in the garage last time, so on this occasion Im wanting to fine tune the carbs rather than start from scratch. I think that for now I will take Christopher's advice and leave it as it is, afte...

Steve, Christopher, thanks for your prompt replies. The garage invoice shows the new needles to be UB, and the fuel pump was a standard SNGB supply. (I thought it was fitted with the modern electronic valves, but it still clicks like the original). I will investigate further and let you know if I fi...

Tuning carbs

This is my first post, so to start at the beginning, thank you all for sharing your knowledge so freely! It has given me the confidence to have a go at fine tuning the 3x SU carbs on my Series 1 4.2 myself! I have couple of items of feedback:- 1. I bought the Uni-syn type flowmeter to adjust the slo...
